Campbell, Mr. Charles A. Rcinhard, Dr. Julius C. Braun, Principal of the District. Board of Education Many times students take things related to the organization of their schools for granted. Actually, behind the effective functioning of our schools is a group of dedicated lay citizens whose interest and purpose is to provide the best possible educational program for the school community. This group is our Board of Education, which is responsible for setting up educational policy for our schools. In Central High School District No. 3, its services include the secondary education programs for 9300 students in the communities of Bellmore, Merrick, North Bellmore, and North Merrick. These areas include the following schools: Brookside Junior High School: Grand Avenue Junior High School: Jerusalem Avenue Junior High School: Merrick Avenue Junior High School; Calhoun High School; Mepham High School; and our new John F. Kennedy High School. The responsibilities of the Board of Education are many. It sets the policies which develop into the educational programs and opportunities for each student in terms of his needs, .interests, and abilities. These policies are implemented into action through the executive officer, the Principal of the District, the building principals, and the teaching staff. This involves the providing of a program of studies, materials of instruction, the professional and non-professional staff, the construction and maintenance of buildings, the co-curricular program, the financing of the total educational operation by means of an annual school budget, transportation, school business management, and many other related functions. Our Board of Education, through its forward-looking approach to the needs and problems of our schools, deserves our heartfelt appreciation for its time, effort, and interest spent in planning and providing an outstanding all-around educational opportunity for each of us. Mr. Bernard Morris, Counsel, Mr. John F. Mahon, Treasurer, Mrs. Ruth D. Hamilton, Clerk. 26
