Ray Krstolic Sec. Beth Chapman Treas. Mickey Kohler Junior Class Back for their second year at Mentor High, the juniors got off to a smooth start this year. Their first project was to elect class officers, and, when results were tabulated, Bob Roy was named president. Serving under Bob was Ray Krstolic as vice-president, Beth Chapman as secretary, and Mickey Kohler handling the finances. Looking into the future, they began planning for the Junior-Senior Prom as early as October, and, by January, plans for the big event were just about settled. With the treasury at low ebb it was decided that some projects had to be started to gain money. One of the biggest money-making projects was the operation of the newly constructed refreshment stand at all the home football games. Other projects included the sale of Cardinal encils and the o eration of the junior candy stand D P 1 On the whole, the juniors had a successful year and are looking forward to an outstanding senior year. -- '- 1'i , .... - ,., ffffi - .,flBt i Claudette Baublitz, Sylvia Blom, ' , 4 I -' I :Q 'K - Jeff Brothers, Allen Carney, Tim ' 'lk -:... ai ,-::: 2 Lf , Casgar, Mary Ellen Cook. r ,wh V .. Bill Hoffman Sophomore Class Entering our halls of ivy for the first time, the sophomore class had the distinction of being the biggest class that Mentor High has ever had. With the help of the sophomore advisors, they soon got into the swing of things around the high school. Class elections were first on the agenda, and they provided some close results, The final slate had Norm Hulderman as president, with Skip Sternem as vice-president. The offices of secretory and treasurer were held by Bonnie Randall and Bill Hoff- man respectively. With no other means of making money, the class was forced to rely on the magazine drive to fatten the treasury. Everybody was willing to cooperate and the class had the highest sales total in the school. The majority of the class meetings were devoted to various educational devices such as movies, panels, speakers, etc. With the cooperation shown throughout the year, it is very probable that this class will turn out to be one of the best, as well as one of the largest classes at Mentor High. 1 f . - W ' , ' ,, -, , Lunsford, Richard Manis, Joyce ' , ' ' Mauk. . f 5 V ., Nancy Wing, Ken Bergman, Kenny i ---Y? ?V 5 f , Bracken, Danny Clark, Florence .- X 5 g, 1 f A 3 ' +A, Dubeansky, Craig Erskine, Gerry 552:-fQ..,Q ' Q A ' '- Fornadley. ,. ,A V i ' , V 'A if , Ml, Q gpg, Bob Thomas, Bill Henery, Bill Howe ' , fl, , Q Q ,, f V 4 ells, Jessie Jobe, Alan Kavanaugh, ' V QV? Coach Riesen is head football coach as well as the coach of the wrestling squad. During the spring months he is kept busy assisting Coach Reese with the track team. While most of the teachers begin their work in September, Coach Riesen begins his work August 20. This is the date on which the football team begins to practice. He works furiously to get the squad in shape for opening game. At the conclusion of football season, Mr. Riesen is busy re- cruiting members for the wrestling team. Just instituted at Mentor last year, wrestling is becoming increasingly popular at the high school, and much of its popularity is due to Mr. Riesen's efforts. When spring rolls around Coach Riesen aids Coach Reese in preparing the track squad for track season, Working to- gether in all sports throughout the year, both Mr. Riesen and Mr. Reese have contributed greatly to Mentor's athletic prowess. COACH HICKERSON Working with the halfbacks and the fullbacks s Coach l-lickersons specialty and he has helped our backs develop into fine hard runners Besides working tumor varsity basketball In this capacity he works with the sophomore and junior boys grooming them to play on the varsity squad 54 . 4 . . i , . During the fall months, Coach Reese is working with the football team. Aside from the wonderful work he does with the ends, Mr. Reese also serves as team doctor. He tapes up their sprains and wrentches and generally successfully diag- noses their various aches and pains. Immediately following the end of football season, Mr. Reese assumes his duties as head basketball coach. Here, too, he takes great pains with the boys to make sure they do the best job they know how out on the basketball court. Track season follows close on the heels of the basketball season and after a short breather, Coach Reese is hard at work conditioning another squad. Last year was his first year with the squad, and he was fortunate enough to win the N.E.C Championship. Coach Reese is one of the busiest men in the high school. He is working with some phase of high school athletics during the whole school year lt is be ause of coaches like him that Mentor has such an impressive athletic record COACH IANNI Coach Larry lanni is a new but pleasant face at the high school this year Mr Ianni is another of our foot ball coaches his specialty being quarterbacks With his spontaneous humor Coach Ianni has a great in fluence on the players During the spring months he will be found helping Coach Hood with the baseball team 55 COACH HOOD Although Mr Wallace Hood is a new face at the students Coach Hood teaches at Shore Junior High but he worked with the varsity football squad during the summer ln the spring Mr Hood will coach the baseball team ' ' . . Besides offer- ing o means of expressing student opinion, the Student Council offers experience in government, even though it is small scale. With the agreement of the od- ministration, the Council is empower- ed to enact and enforce any rules they think will benefit the student body, ond this year they have per- haps made their biggest contribution to Mentor High. Eoch class is represented by mem- bers from each homeroom, while the officers, rather than elected from membership, are elected by the whole student body. V RSITY M Varsity M is, as its name implies, a club for those boys that have earned a varsity letter in either football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, or track. All new members are formally initiated supposedly to prove their athletic prowess. Like the other clubs in the high school, Varsity M has definite objectives, among them the betterment of the M. H. S. athletic program, promoting good relations between the faculty and members, and encouraging good sportsman- ship and cooperation among the students. The faculty advisors for Var- sity M are Coach Riesen and Coach Reese, who take active part in the program and all the projects of the club. 92 Officers Glen Ka'1,gu SecretcryATrcas, rer, Jann Hagey-Presidont Gary Grant-Vice President F.l. . Future Teachers of America is, as the name implies, a club for those intending to become teachers, and its main function is encouraging as many as possible to enter the teaching profession. The meetings usually feature a speaker who is employed in the field of education and is willing to answer questions concerning the various aspects of the teaching profession, the emphasis being upon elementary or secondary school teaching. The F. T. A. is a nation-wide organization and the Mentor club is often invited to attend meetings and programs of other clubs in the area. The students are also allowed to take over classes in the elementary school to gain ex- perience and decide whether teaching is the field they desire to enter. Officers.
