adminisffzafion As the class of 1951 approaches its graduation, our nation faces a troubled and uncertain world. Throughout the history of our country, periods of unrest and conflict have come and gone. Through all of these years of struggle, our nation has grown in strength from the thirteen original col- onies to become the great and powerful world lead- er of today. During these years of uncertainty, our American youth have been called upon many times and in many ways to play their part in preserving our American way of life and perpetuating our heri- i tage of a free democracy. They have never failed --- to live up to that expectation and have always sursmursnnsn-r stood ready to bear their full share of responsi- ML pda R, Rice bility for our nation's future. You, as members of the class of 1951, are graduating at a time when the years ahead are most critical and again our youth are being called upon to play an important part in the preservation of our way of life. As you look ahead, no matter what uncertainty threat- ens, always remember that man is still the master of his own destiny and not merely a puppet to be ushered to his doom by the hand of fate. The stuggle which beckons you on to your greatest effort and highest achievements also rewards you with those successes so greatly coveted. It is for you in the years ahead to live your best and do your best, and while so doing, live the rich, full, gratifying life which will result in your greatest contribu- tion to your future and the welfare of your country. May your years at Mentor High School serve as a worthy preparation toward this end. This current time is sometimes called the era of specialists, or of specialization. Not only in the medical field do we have specialists for various ailments and conditions of the body, but in engineering, education, the military serv- ice, in law, in office work, in business, in industry, we demand especially trained people for specific problems A or jobs to be done. The old-fashioned jack of all trades and master of none does not belong in our time. That being the case, the wise student who is pre- paring in youth for a successful and happy future will lose no opportunity to qualify himself by hard work, worthy ambition, sound character, wholesome fun and recreation, and wise choice of vocation or profession, for what will be his adult place in our society. Student years well spent pave the way for decades of successful living, such years wasted, or spent in half-h'earted effort may mean crippled and handicapped decades of adult life. nine PRINCIPAL Mr. Ellis Hastetler
