Could the boys and girls of the l900's have visioned the auto, the airplane, radio, television? No-just as we, standing on the threshold of the Half Century, cannot vision all the wonderful, exciting things ahead of us for the next fifty years. Let's roll back the curtain of Time and look in on us as junior high students. There's something magic and grownup about the words after spending six long, long years in the lower grades. Then, suddenly we're in high school-Freshmen-a little scared-proud and important, with a feel- ing that we've arrived. Sophomores and Juniors-the in between years of our high school days are packed full of interesting events, disappointment, wonderfully exciting days, but always there looms the proud day when we are the ones on Top,-Seniors at last. Then comes the fleeting year that seems to be racing away from us. No, we can't be graduating already. Not we, who only last week, or was it yesterday, were starting this four-year journey. Now it's graduation night and memories come flooding in-cherished ones that we can lock in our hearts for keeps. We realize that too soon it's all over. Tomorrow we'll go our separate ways alone and yet with a bond that unites us of Mentor High, forever. And so, as Father Time is recording this special l95O edition of our Mentor High School, let's peek over his shoulder and read what he has written about you and me as Time Marches On. four Gene Fryan 3111 P 111 n 1' i at m wk Far off to adventurous lands, Far, far away, Life is different there- Far, far away. M5 A37 MIA Ak 'X Mr. Dale R. Rice The Graduating Class of l95O: The theme of your year book, Mid-Century , sug- gests the characteristic of the Roman God, Janus, who can look both forward and backward. From this van- tage point, we may look both directions-to the past to see what has gone before and to the future to see what lies ahead. ln terms of a century, Mentor High School is very young. It was established only half of the half century ago. During its brief existence, it has grown from in- fancy into a lusty youth and its size is about six times its meager beginning. Before it reaches its half-century mark, it should reach a full grown maturity, both in size and accomplishment, which should be far beyond the scope of our imaginations. You, as seniors, are graduating and starting your lives looking forward rather than backward in anticipa- tion of what is in store during the next half-century. You are graduating at an age when you will be able to see and experience the amazing developments of the half-century ahead. If progress in science and industry develops as in the past, wonderful accomplishments and revelations are in store for you. BOARD OF EDUCATION Left to right: Dr, R. M. Fagan, D. R. Rice, John Shaffer, E. H, Schultz, Earl Ives, H, J. Wilson, Harry Hoefler, ten May you have health to enjoy the wonders of the new half-century, the intellect to cope with its problems, spirit and faith to carry you through troubles, and an optimism to buoy you up to meet successfully its stimu- lating challenges. While advancing toward any goal, it is wise to con- template the future frequently, review the past, check progress, survey what is still to be accomplished, and plan how it may best be done. At this mid-century mark Americans can well ask: How far have we proceeded the past fifty years? Where are we going the next fifty? Where are we now? What future course shall we plan for the concluding half of the twentieth century? In devising comforts, luxuries, labor saving machines, entertainment, means of travel, and weapons of war, we have come far, in improving government, homes, fine arts, international and inter-group relations, and im- proving democratic citizenship we still have far to go. May the energy, eagerness, zest and ability of l95O's high school youth go far in achieving worthy goals. Mr. Ellis M. Hostetlcr OFFICE STAFF Mrs. Vienna Nordman, Miss Alice Taylor, Mr. C.
