The 1973 season was a slightly con- fused period, primarily because of the elimination of divisions based on school enrollment. The picture looked somewhat grim at the beginning, however things brightened up quickly. Tom Schreck's horsing around during the summer didn't affect him appreciably as far as running was concerned, and Scott Jones' tre- mendous improvement C1 ,OOO plus miles over the summerb made Menlo a respect- able team again. -1-'xx' 4-...,,1' is 68 'lf'

A few weeks into the season, Tom Schreck sustained a whiplash and was side-lined for three meets. Although the team had difficulties at first, every- one got together towards the end and did extremely well. They placed high in both the Pacific Grove and Peninsula lnvitationals. To cap off the season, the team ran away from the competition in the League Meet, placing all five scor- ing Varsity runners in the top ten.
