But it was far from that. Most of the schools on the schedule were big pub- lic schools with personnel that Menlo couldn't match. In spite of this, the team never let down. Their two best games were against their two toughest teams, which they lost to by only a few points. The Junior Varsity team's pur- pose is to be a training ground for the Varsity. The 1973 season was a slightly con- fused period, primarily because of the elimination of divisions based on school enrollment. The picture looked somewhat grim at the beginning, however things brightened up quickly. Tom Schreck's horsing around during the summer didn't affect him appreciably as far as running was concerned, and Scott Jones' tre- mendous improvement C1 ,OOO plus miles over the summerb made Menlo a respect- able team again. -1-'xx' 4-...,,1' is 68 'lf'
