§ § RISING UP AND LOOKING BACK § § This is the Senior Class of 1986. I keep telling myself that as I look at all of my friends. In reality, all I can think about is how everyone looked on our very first day of school twelve years ago. I've had a lot of dreams of my future over these past twelve years. I've shed a lot of tears and weathered a lot of disappointments. That's what growing ud is all about, though. Now that I've made it to the top, there are a lot of decisions to be made. I can no longer put things off by saying, There's always next year. I know what I want from myself. This is my last chance to make everything I do the best it can be. This is the most important chance for us to all prove ourselves as matur- ing adults. We are America's future. We make a difference. Being a senior is an important step on the ladder. It's the end of an era. When graduation comes, we'll begin a whole new life with a whole new group of people. It's like starting all over again. I know that when you're a fresh- man, you think you've got it made. I remember thinking that because I was in high school, I knew it all. I was wrong. I learned a lot from my friends and, believe it or not, from my teachers! You do a lot of growing up your junior and senior years. To the freshmen, I'd like to leave this piece of advice .... Please take it from someone who's been there. Slow down, enjoy life as it happens. Don't be afraid to listen to other people; it's better than having only yourself to listen to. And finally, don't rush through high school. The end comes soon enough! By Susan Smallwood
