BOOM KENNETH VALENTI KATHLEEN BYRNES fw They walked with us a little while. Then left us through a door. They were smiling, lively youths Who walk with us no more. Life's morning holds the sweetest hours. And these few hours they had. But something went wrong, because now he's orbiting around in space! For the past ten years he has been able to send us down reports. We'll tune in on him right now: Hey, you peoplel It's a clear day. I can see earth! I guess I'll look in on my ol' classmates from '59. I see my ol' chum. Bob Sallinen, the greatest inventor of the past decade. He has re- tired with his billion that he made for converting the horseless carriage into horses with carriages and for the invention of that much-needed gadget, the sparkless spark-plug! There's Sharon McGlothlin, alias 'Mac, Sal, Rabbit, or Shorty... Good Heavens! I Wow! She owns a nite-club on 'Brawd-way.' Oh, no... She owns the dude ranch next door, too! She owns a factory back in Missouri that manufactures 3-minute hair coloring kits! Well, I see John Matson now owns a nation-wide chain of general stores. He ran for President of the U.S. not long ago, you know. He was elected but was impeached for running over the Secretary of Defense in his new DeSoto '900. Sharon Simons and her husband, Mike S., are in Alaska managing an orphanage for snow rabbits. They have a pretty big family now... I'd say about 9,999,226 (rabbits, that is). If they succeed with those little critters, they'll soon be able to make angora socks for their own family. Well, down in Potato Land, I see Mary Ann Cotter. She owns all of Idaho now, and she is also a writer. Her latest novel 'Nuthin' But Spuds,' sold a million. I see her now writing another thriller called 'The Eyes Have It.' Oh! There's Bob 'Red' Defer, the greatest pitcher in the National Leeg. He has racked up a perfect no-hitter record during the last season. He has only one trouble... a .000 batting average. He is also good in bit-parts in some western movies. He is noted for his fast draw. It's easy to spot Judy Lenhares and her husband Craig T. Ihey've built a huge fort in among the hills of Boonville. They seem to be trying to protect the little Tolmans from nearby invaders. These invaders, by the way, are none other than Cathy Richards and her nine little waitress daughters. Cathy, a good cook, has become well-known for her spe- cialty---Little Tolmanburgers. I spot Dave Nielson... He's joined the famous Cossack Sword Dancers. His next ap- pearance is in Canarybird Hall, which I see he owns. He's practicing his number now. Go, Nielson, Go! I 66 Qpjd v f-f VtOSCOp COidi Hey! There's Jim 'Bird' Sansi, senator from Alaska. He's put up a basketball net next to the speaker's chair in Congress. Bird also broke the record for a speaker by rack- ing up 4,976 points in a 'Freeze-out' contest against the Texas senator, Lee 'Shine' Silva. Lee gets his voters by giving away a few million copies of his Pulitzer Prize-win- ning pamphlet, JSave a Gallon a Day With a Model A.' I guess there are a few of the ol' gang on the M.U.H.S. battleship, 'the Hill'.. .oh, yes, there they are! Captain Reva Costa is in charge of manuevers during practice on Big River. Reva and her crew have been carrying on mortal combat with the stumps and snags, but nothing keeps Reva down. Edith Costa and Grace Barff, her faithful M.D.s have been trying to calm her, and, at the same time, they try to protect the rest of the crew from a contagious case of 'Captain-itis' because they are getting angry at Reva. There's someone swinging from the anchor chainl Oh, it's Carol Mason, Carol, 'Tweetie,' has a terrific baritone voice, and not long ago, she saved the ship from a terrible disaster in the fog. Tweetie received a 'green heart' of courage for this.. .courage beyond the call of Captain Costa. There's one of my ol' favorites, Carolyn 'Fenny' Fenn, the winner of the contest for gracefulness in ballet. She has become famous for her ability to mix the J-c2KmNxxx. That's the mixture that happens to be keeping me up here. Gee, Nancy Shrode Brown and her husband, Andy, now live in Africa. They have gone a long way with their invention of 'Red Eye.' Their world-wide Remedy Stores have a big demand for this medicine which is best for any ailment. In fact, I see our advisor, Mrs. Wilkie, feeding it to her cat.. the cat disappeared. Cruising over New York, I see JoAnn Lucas Defer and her family sitting in front of the supervision set and cheering Defer to victory. Jo is the treasurer of the U.S., and her sixteen children (red-haired) all have dimes for buttons. They all practice a fast draw like the ol' man. There's a great sightl Off on that huge continent of Elkus, I see Joan Daniels and Eddy Curti, her husband, designing a new U.S. model V.W. Also, back in 1960, Joan was named 'Miss Elk,' but that was before she broke the speed record in her Volks at Indianapolis. Right now, tho', she's kept pretty busy with the two little Edward Jrs. I've crossed a lot of country by now, and I see Irene Merritt in Ulrri Germany, with her husband, David Silva, and their eight little 'Portugerms.' She has just finished a motion picture which has been a hit. It's a great show called ‘Have Woman, Will Travel,' co-starring D. Silva. Well, that's all there is to that. It's time for me to - Putt-Putt-Putt. Oh, Fenny, I'm all out of J-c2KmNxx! Anyway, I'm mighty proud of the class of '59.. .they all still have their feet planted firmly on earth! 67 SPONSORS Noyo tfifi bridges. . .
