c. BOOM ’57 Mendocino Union High School Mendocino, California Contents Foreword Dedication Administration Seniors Underclassmen Sports Organizations Sponsors Foreword Many of us are not aware of the scenic and beau- tiful Mendocino coast around us Through our theme this year we have tried to bring to you forgotten scenes of the past, places of interest along the sea shore, and a glimpse of the old coast towns The Annual Staff 2 S'IA •iki va bf fisa Dedication It has been the policy of the Mendocino High School Annual Staff to dedicate the Boom to some one person who has made outstanding contributions to the school. Mr. I. D. Henry, coach and shop teacher, has fulfilled this requirement. His tireless efforts have created excel- lent sportsmanship and winning teams during his five years at Mendocino. To show our appreciation for his efforts we wish to dedicate the 1957 Boom to Coach Henry Mrs Mason Secretary Mrs Enochs Mrs Hay ter Cooks 4- Ken Shrode Bus Driver and Custodian Employees The employees have spent much time and energy contrib- uting to the comfort and efficiency of our school. A school may be compared to a Boom'' of this sort for a school guides its pupils along the right channels of knowledge and true citizenship. We hope that in the future many more Booms will cast their influence over our school and continue to guide the present and future students along the right channels of knowledge and true citizenship also 10 Mendocino High School, 1898 The above is a reproduction from a photo taken of Mendocino High School in February. 1898 The old school was built in 1893 and after more than hall a century of service, was torn down in 1948 and replaced by the present building in 1949 n The annual staff wishes to congratulate and extend best wishes to the Senior Class of 1957. Take this Boom and the memories it contains with you into the future. We hope that your future will be as memor- able and as enjoyable as your Senior year. SENIORS SENIOR CLASS HOROSCOPE In the year 1977, we looked into the Crystal ball, and saw the Mighty Senior Class of 1957. Sitting behind it, telling fortunes was the one and only Emil (Teddy) Stump We asked Teddy to look into his crystal ball and this is what he saw. World famous music conductor, Rodney (Smokey) Sverko is now conducting an orchestra at Carnegie Hall, featuring David Ross as Trombone soloist. We see David Esmay, the mad Scientist, working carefully on the new bubble gum bomb Dr. Connie Meek is now in Africa trying to cure a lively disease. In the field of sports we now see Bob Pelascini playing for the San Francisco Dons and also Louie Fratis coaching the Cardinals. Carole Robinson is now married and her oldest son, Russ Jr., is a Sergeant in the Army Gloria Simons now owns a laundry house in the town of Casper which has grown to the population of 2,000,000 Watching a parade in the crystal ball we saw Milton Walcott, the famous drummer for the Marine Corps marching by Mary Sandbothe Lowe now owns several thousand Mendosa s Markets throughout the world. Clytie Costa has moved to Greenwood to be closer to Eddy in hopes that he will take the hint and marry her Carol Johnson and Lorraine Valador are now working as models in New York City Robert Sutliff and David MacDonald are selling motor scooters which is America’s newest invention in the racing field. Taking a submarine trip to Japan are a few members of our class. Diana Owens is going to meet her husband. Admiral Brown, who is due home this month Florence Jones is making her first trip under seas with the United States Army Alfred Silva is a mechanic working in Gary Colby's auto shop at Little River, California Janice Branzuela and Lynn Gabbert are now running a hot dog stand in the middle of Union Square in Mendocino. Ronnie Lowe is now running a fish factory in Big River and also is a professional jack player on the side. Ronnie Daniels owns and edits the Mendocino Tribune and has Bessie Morgan write the Lovelorn column in his paper Howard Galletti is famous for his articles on farm news Making headlines all over the nation is Sandra Zunino who has become famous for the extraordinary fete of going over the Niagara Falls in a bird cage Thelma McDonell is now a movie star and is making her 25th picture in London Her husband, Ralph Jones, is producing a picture. Two young housewives, Ernestine Alameda and Alice Woodward, are very happily married and raising the future football team for the Mendocino Cardinals. Chester Mathews and Bob Fraser have been lost ever since our sneak day A 5c award will be offered to anybody who knows their whereabouts. Coming to the end of our experience we look in and see Rita Reddington, the famous veterinarian, busy disecting a horse We thank Teddy for letting us know what the memorable Senior Class of 1957 are doing and we promise to drop in and see him soon.
