Ancient peoples worshipped it. Ancient civilizations governed their very | existence according to its phases, as they tried to learn its secrets. They longed to reach out, to comprehend, the mysterious ball of silver and gold. ■ ;V 5 •• ' : L : ' .»• ’ , . • i,;. . , Today, the moon has become the physical manifesta- tion of a wider search, a search for understanding of ourselves , a search for a better life. As man, through the astronauts, reached out to touch the moon, the world — our world — came together for a few brief moment; to challenge, to meet a new destiny. After grc ».!, i, we too shall meet a new destiny; we shall begin c; - quest for knowledge and for understand- ing of ourselves. Each of us must attempt to ameliorate his environment — to search for a better life. Yet, one might ask, what is the value of reachin ° Is it worth the risks and disappointments? As we search the heavens to realize our dreams, we must each not forget the individual challenge of life here on earth: T he world stands out on either side No wider than the heart is wide; Above the world is stretched the sky, No higher than the soul is high.
