Our world at Melrose High School encompasses over two thousand students and numerous faculty members. Our school grounds consist of a main building, new additions of classrooms, conference rooms, scientific and linguistic labora- tories, and many athletic facilities. All these people and these buildings have formed a small world in which we have lived closely for four years. These years involve the ever-present patterns of design, teaching, and competition. As our theme of Patterns develops in pictures and words, one can see that not only are we working around and within the more obvious patterns of geo- metric design in computer attendance cards, program schedules, and symmetrical arrangements of seats in our auditorium and on our football field, but we are also being molded by a different kind of pattern: our courses and our subjects. These courses will eventually set a design for the kind of life we wish to pursue after we have left Melrose High School. In our many fields of endeavor, patterns tend to develop our latent talents. On the gridiron, on the courts, on the baseball diamond, or in any competition we are being trained in greater design towards self-control, vigor and co- ordination. In the many other fields of education, our minds are being shaped and disciplined so that we may step into the world with confidence and maturity, and we may begin to live with pride and dignity in our community. As this year book unfolds, one must realize that we are not the cold statistics of a number of students and buildings, who have been at Melrose High School for four years, but we are concerned students with faults, virtues, ideals, and aspirations in this exciting year of 1969 .
