Mn Blrrp, may we introduce you to the Orleans- Niagara B.C.E.S. Recognizing the need for a richer educational pro- gram for the schools of the State, Section 1958 of the Educational Law provided for the establishment of Boards of Cooperative Educat.ional Services. The pro- gram under such a board can then furnish to the schools many special teaching services on a cooperative basis which ordinarily can not be afforded or at least gainfully employed. Historically speaking, the Board of Cooperative Ed- ucational Services now serving Orleans and a portion of Niagara County was first established for Orleans Coun- ty in 1956. Later, effective February 1, 1958, the new supervisory district and Board of Cooperative Educa- tional Services for Orleans and Niagara Counties was established. A Component districts comprising the present coopera- tive system include Albion, Barker, Holley, Lyndon- ville, Bledina and Royalton Hartland Central schools. Otto J. Stewart was elected the first District Super- intendent and Executive officer of the Board. Presently, special services include: remedial reading testing, psychological guidance, speech correction, dental cor- rection, physical education instruction, driver educa- tion, music instruction, art instruction, distributive education, library supervision, and the Vocational, Industrial Cooperative VVork Experience Program.
