EXCHANGE STUDENTS - GERMANY Sheri Gunderson Kerri Lonson Marty Visser In this third year of participation in an exchange between Alberta High School Stu- dents and German 'Gynmasium' students from Bavaria, we can boast a ffirst'. We had a boy participate. Marty Visser was matched with Linus Eschenbeck from Marquartstein in the Bavarian Alps. There were three students this year who came to MHHS to improve their knowledge of English, and to learn something about Canada. They arrived on August 26, 1986 on Time Air at the Medicine Hat Municipal Airport and met their partners for the first time: Andrea Vogel was Sheri Gunderson's s- isterw, and Ulla Glasser joined the Lonson family as Kerri's partner. For the three months that our guests enjoyed the wide-open spaces of Alberta, they attended English, Social Studies, Physical Education, Art and Electronics classes. They performed very well scholastically and added interest to the classes they attended by relating experiences and customs from their native country. Guest appearances at CHHS and Alexandra Junior High School gave them an opportunity to see more schools in our system, as well as giving students learning German in those schools an opportunity to see and interview 'real, live Ger- man teenagersi. Kerri Lonson, Sheri Gunderson and Marty Visser flew with Lufthansa to Munich on March 26, 1987 to begin their stay at the homes oftheir German partners. They will return June 30 with a greater ability to speak German and also with stories of many exciting adventures including a trip to East Berlin. Very special thanks go to Dr. Sauer and the School Board, the Medicine Hat Rotary Club and Mr. A. Kulpe for their financial help and to Mrs. R. Schmitke for arranging a delightful reception in August! STUDENT VISITOR - SOUTH AFRICA Wendy Hubble was born in Sabie, Transvaal, Republic of South Africag and now resides in Pieter- maritzburg, the capital of the Province of Natal, R.S.A. Wendy took part in the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. Wendy wrote the following regarding the Rotary Exchange Program: I want to contribute as much as I possibly can to Rotary, my Host Family and Host Country. They will be giving me ufnntastic opportunity and I would onlyfeel happy VI gave them something of mysey' in return. I hope to gain a better insight and idea of other ways of lU'e, cultures and traditions. ' ' Wendy attended Medicine Hat High School during the 1986-87 school year: took part in our Graduation Exercises, and will be continuing her education at the Medicine Hat College. Wendy Hubble has fulfilled her obligations as an Exchange Student, tenfold - by contributing her time and talentsg and by partaking in many activities while attending our school.
