Rho Chi had its beginning in 1908 when the Anstolochite Society, as the organization was first named, was established at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. It declared as its main purpose to advance pharmaceutical science and promote good fellowshi]). In 1912 the organization became officially recognized as a campus honorary group. In 1919 a second chapter was established and it became a national organization. In 1922 the name was changed to Rho Chi — the svTnbol ( ) of which bears a fitting similarity to the prescription sign. Since that time Rho Chi has expanded into sixty-three active chapters across the nation. Rho Chi Lambda Chapter was established here at the School of Pharmacy in 1929. It has had as its object the promotion of scholarshiji, friend- ship, and the recognition of high attainment in the pharmaceutical sciences. Usual activities consist of a program promoting further study in the pharmaceutical sciences and an annual banquet following initiation of new members. Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Fraternity Charles Donlan President Marc Thames Vice-President Gerry Weintraub Secretary Ron Preston Treasurer Don Allyn Alpha Omega Alpha is an Honorary Medical Society founded at the College of Medicine of the University of Medicine of the University of Illinois in 1902 by Wil- liam W. Root. The Brown Sequard Chapter at MCV was organized in 1940. Membership is based on scholarship, personal hon- esty, and potential leadership. Alumnus membership is granted for distinctive achievement in the art and practice of scientific medicine. Honorary membership is granted to eminent leaders in the field of medicine. A.O.A. has stimulated medical i-esearch, the highest educational and ethical standards, as well as the nobler professional ideals. 20
