Sigma Zeta Honorary Science Society Brenda Smith President Elaine Woods Vice-President Sigma Zeta, a national science honorary society, was formed in 1925, at Shurtleff College in Illinois by a group of young men just out of graduate school, who were interested with the ideals of sound scholarship. MCV received its charter as the third, or Gamma, chap- ter in 1927. A segment of the wood in the handle of the official national gavel comes from the flooring of the Egyptian Building, the oldest building on our cam- pus. Membership is restricted to junior and senior stu- dents of acceptable scholarship in any field of the sci- ences and mathematics. Gamma Chapter inducts new members in the spring of each year and honors them with a banquet. Hugh Douglas Treasurer

Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Fraternity Charles Donlan President Marc Thames Vice-President Gerry Weintraub Secretary Ron Preston Treasurer Don Allyn Alpha Omega Alpha is an Honorary Medical Society founded at the College of Medicine of the University of Medicine of the University of Illinois in 1902 by Wil- liam W. Root. The Brown Sequard Chapter at MCV was organized in 1940. Membership is based on scholarship, personal hon- esty, and potential leadership. Alumnus membership is granted for distinctive achievement in the art and practice of scientific medicine. Honorary membership is granted to eminent leaders in the field of medicine. A.O.A. has stimulated medical i-esearch, the highest educational and ethical standards, as well as the nobler professional ideals. 20
