AUSTIN I. DODSOX, M.D. Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology JACK KING FIXXEGAX Associate Professor of Pharmacology In Menxavxmxx Austin I. Dodson, M.D., MCA , 1916, F.A.C.S., whose persevering labor as Professor from 1934 - 1957 built the department of Genito-Urinary Surgery: whose books, The Synopsis of Genito-Urinary Diseases and Uro- logiral Surgery, brought fame to himself and international honor to the college: whose marvellous technical skill and medical wisdom were ever at the service of his fellow man; who was, to those of us who knew him, an eminent colleague, an inspiring teacher, a wise and just counsellor, a sincere friend. And you shall shortly know that lengthened breath Is not the sweetest gift God sends His friend: And that sometimes the sable pall of death Conceals the fairest boon His love can send. This poem by May Riley Smith brings some measure of comfort when we think of Doctor Finnegan ' s death on September 13 at the age of forty-two. When the malady is incurable we arc always thankful to the Lord that the illness is short and our friend mercifully spared great suffering. Doctor Finnegan was born April 23. 1916 in Denhoff, Xorth Dakota. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of California and came to MCY on July 1. 1943 as a research assistant in pharmacology. He had taught at the University of California and at West Virginia University before joining our faculty. J21
