To Our Students To graduate young men and women with a ma- tured understanding that education is a life long process to which formal schooling only contributes importantly, and with a deep conviction that this process must be implemented in every possible way, is an objective which every educationist aspires to see achieved. This objective has special validity for those who enter the professions. High Class routine professional contacts, unceasing perusal of the current literature, attendance at meet- ings of the profession, visits to workers elsewhere in the same field, and many other means of stimu- lation and growth are indispensable. There is yet another procedure which has not been made so completely available this far. A centre like the Medical College of Virginia, for example, should include a continuation education building, with lounges, conference rooms, auditorium, dining room, and a reasonable number of dormitory rooms. Here a program of postgraduate education should be set up to meet the needs of our graduates of each school and others having kindred interests. This means a variety of scheduled activities, some las ting a few days, others lasting a few weeks or even months, in which our staff and other specialists from the outside world participate as co-learners with returning graduates. Almost any emphasis in which any group is interested should be provided and so planned that many of the most stimulating contacts and discussions will be made informally, in the dining room, in the lounges, in addition to the more formal conferences, discussions, and clinics. Your college hopes to achieve this objective as soon after the war as practicable. Its success will depend to a large extent upon how well prepared our voung people are for this type of educational experience even before their graduation. It is be- lieved that when the continuation education centre begins to function it will stimulate a fine interest within the student body, preparing them for its maximum use in subsequent years. Sincerely yours, W. T. Sanger, President.
