A Q F N 10 SENIORS LE D THE SCHOOL .,,,, Taking one step at a time, the senior class became more confident, more sure of itself as the end drew near. Through their three years at Meadowdale, this class proved that the race is not to the swift , but to all who would try. As Seniors, they became more aware of their school and the influence they would leave behind. Knowing that their time left at MHS would be short, the Seniors tried hard to make this influence an outstanding and lasting one, one which would remain for all classes of the future. ff iii T, Q Oo C1 ll I W.,-,MT 4056 gpg? However, through good team effort and hours of practice, the team came out third in their division and fifth in the Western Conference. Whoever wants to know the heart and mind of it America had better learn baseball, the rules and realities of the game-and do it by watching first some high school or small town teams. This was the idea portrayed by world-famous jacques Bar- zun, as he viewed the place of baseball in Ameri- ca today. As we at Meadowdale have watched our team this year, we have seen the teamwork and sportsmanship that would prompt such words. gigwgitiitltl' 55ii?ot'5Qo'oQ090Q'?? DEB TERS IN Starting in November, the Meadowdale debate team, under the supervision of Mr. Mike Ayers, at- tended a series of tournaments, beginning with a two-day meet at Western Washington State College in Bellingham. Two Meadowdale teams went into action-a senior team with Ken Ralph laffirmative and negativel, Lane Savitch Caffirmative, both pic- tured at rightl, and Betty Bandli Cnegativel junior team members: Beth Hailey and Randy Barnard Cnegativel, and julie McDonald and Eileen Havens Caffirmativel. The controversy was over the draft. Besides debate, there were other events at the Bel- lingham tournament. Sylvan Palmer, Randy Barnard and Eileen Havens competed in impromptu-a 6- minute speech with no preparation, and perhaps the toughest of the individual events. Bruce Ramsey and Lane Savitch each memorized a ten-minute oratory word for word-creating an eye-opening presenta- tion of polish and emotional appeal. Ken Ralph, Warner Miller, julie McDonald and Beth Hailey prepared oral interpretation, a dramatic reading of selections from literature. Warner Miller competed in an entirely new category, original poetry, which perhaps calls for more creativity than any other event. The Meadowdale team won valuable experi- ence, if only one trophy-a finalist trophy in oratory that went to Lane Savitch. , 146 ACTIO julie McDonald and Eileen Havens labovel were the junior affirmative team. A.S.B. also sponsored other projects such as Lights for Life, a program designed to place street lights in front of the school to help prevent further accidents.
