On March 21, 1961, the annual Athletic Banquet was held in the gym. The gym was decorated in the school colors, red and white. The throne was at the north end of the gym and was covered with streamers. The names of the athletes being honored were posted on the west wall. The volleyball girls were honored on the south wall. The east wall featured a huge Trojan coat of armor. Rodger Nelson gave the greeting. Then came the processional and the crowning of the King and Queen of Sports, Jerry Wyatt and Joyce Lyall. Attendants to the queen were Donna Rae Black, Beth Ann McIntosh, and Susan Gilbert. Attendants to the king were Doug Ellis, Ronnie Zierke, and Duane Suckstorf. Assisting in the coronation as crown-bearers were Sherry Verplank and Timmy Shawyer. Athletic letters were presented. Music was provided by Mr. Sawyer and the sophomore girls' trio. Eight grade school girls served the banquet. The theme of the 1961 Junior-Senior Banquet was Evening in Paris. It was held on the evening of April 28. The north half of the gym was decorated as a sidewalk cafe. The path to the cafe led past a wishing pond to a low stone wall having two cafe entrances flanked by small potted trees. The ceiling was covered with blue and silver streamers dotted with stars. The north wall featured a large lighted replica of the Eiffel Tower. The west wall portrayed a sidewalk art shop. Doug Ellis, junior class president, gave the welcome. Joyce Lyall, senior class president, gave the response. A talk by Mr. Hummer followed. The banquet was served by the following sophomores: Kathy Daniel, Thyra Lulow, Kay Ziehmer, Jeannie Hamley, Rodger Nelson, Larry Sparr, Mick Anson, and Duane Suckstorf. The girls were dressed as sidewalk artists, the boys as French chefs.
