Meadow Grove's six man football team in the fall of '54 was the best the school has put out in its short football history. It earned the fine record of seven wins and one loss. The winning streak was started when Meadow Grove played host to Osmond September 10 and beat them 19-13. The Trojans then traveled to Brunswick September 17 and downed them 52-6. The next victim of the Trojans was anew team to them, Beemer. The game was played there September 24, with Beemer getting skunked 33-0. In the second conference game of the season Clearwater came here, October 1. They left in a depressing mood though, after getting beat 43-13. On October 8, Orchard became Meadow Grove's fifth victory. They never knew what hit them, letting the Trojans win by a 24-2 score. Meadow Grove beat Chambers for the first time in its football history on October 15 by the convincing score of 59-14. Going to Elgin October 20, Meadow Grove played a game that will be remembered for a long time. The score was tied 20-20 at the half but the Trojans went on and led 34-20 at the end of the third quarter. Elgin, being tied with M.G. for the conference championship, caught fire in the fourth quarter and won the game 51-34. It was a heartbreaker to lose, but everyone will agree it was the game of the year. The last game of the season was played October 27 against Oakdale. The Antolopes were beaten 44-6. That left Meadow Grove in second place in the Sandhills Gateway Conference with Elgin coming out on top. The townpeople and students all enjoyed the fine season and are looking forward to the next, hoping it will be better than ever. 27
