SKIP DAY Bright and early before dawn on April 30, twenty wide-eyed seniors and their sponsors embarked on their glorious two day Skip Day Trip to Storm Lake, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska. The first stop was in Sioux City, Iowa, where everyone had a light breakfast. Meadow Grove was the first school to arrive at Storm Lake. The entire group posed for their picture and then proceeded to tour a packing plant and an electric plant. Everyone stopped up town to get their skipper” hats and then went to watch the presentation of the Skip Day queen, king, and attendants. Marilyn Daniel was an attendant. In the afternoon all skippers were treated to a free movie. After supper several skippers” went to the show and a few went to Cobblestone Inn and danced to the music of Jimmy Palmer. In the wee hours the seniors boarded the bus for Omaha. After arriving at the airport, they watched planes land and take off. Many of the thrill-seeking seniors went up for airplane rides. Gate City Steel was the first stop in Omaha, and later in the morning everyone toured the police station and visited a court session. On your own until we leave stated Mr. Adams, so everyone was off for an afternoon of enjoyment in the city. At 10:00 P. M. the seniors, tired, but happy, boarded the bus for their last stop... home.

Looking back into the dusty old records of the Meadow Grove Public Schools, we discovered that four of this year's graduating class began their school days in the local school-Charlette Ellis, Dixie Ferry, Joe Sanne, and Bill Wilson. In the fall of 1950, twenty-seven freshmen started their steep climb toward graduation. Ronnie Lewis led us through the trials of the first year and Mr. Weber directed us. Climbing on, we, as sophomores, had learned the ropes of high school better. Therefore, we could really enjoy ourselves. Carolyn Luttman, Evangline Verplank, and Bill Yenter did not return and Raymond Ryan and Mary Wische left later. Jimmie Holton led us and Mr. Weber was again our director. During our third year we achieved many successes. Go West Young Man, the class play, was presented and we treated the seniors at an elaborate banquet in the spring. One evening in May we dressed in formal attire, lighted candles, and ushered the seniors to the place where they received their diplomas. Leaning heavily on our staffs, we proceeded to finish our last year of climbing. We started a small school paper to record the happenings of our last year. The class play, The Antics of Andrew, was presented by a talented cast of seniors in the spring. We were honored at a banquet by the juniors in May. We reached our goal when we stood in caps and gowns to receive our diplomas. Our journey was hard but not as hard as the one we face now. . .the road to SUCCESS.
