YENTER CASH GROCERY QUALITY IS ECONOMY DEDICATION This year marks the end of h1gh school for another group of semors -the seniors of 1941 It would be impossible to graduate without the with us The faculty has been our guiding medium through four years of high school We have been a laughing rollicking boisterous and at times an unruly group We are frank to admit our shortcomings yet we would also have you believe that with all the bravado appearance of the outside, we have taken our high school work seriously. The members of this class hope that we may be worthy of the trust given to us by our parents. We realize the many things they have done without to make possible an education in the Meadow Grove High School. The board of education is also an important factor in making pos- sible an adequate education. They have been generous as Well as co- optrative. , To the Faculty, to the Board of Education, and to our Parents, we dedicate this Annual of 1941. To them we extend our appreciation, our gratitude, and our sincere thanks for their help. With our thanks to you behind us, with all our hopes before us, we approach the task that is ours-a task we hope to perform capably. , Darlyne Schulze, Editor-In-Chief. 4- I4 o 45 ' J V V ummm' X 1 Q . . . . . gs 3 aid of our parents, who have been generous, sacrificing, and patient ' 5 K . Winton Beech has gone a long .way: he is now working in his own laboratory trying to take the buzz out of a honey bee. Bill Boyer is in the movies. They thought he was Charles Boyer's nephew. Merlynn Kinne is testing his first sky rocket, which he thinks will travel 650 miles an hour. Delbert Dearmin runs the city pool hall. l Muriel Hamley is now being studied by famous musicians: she sang higher than any note they ever heard. Minette Hogsett is up near the Great Lakes Training Base. Her hus- band 18 in the navy and every night she sings, My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean. Ruth Horrocks and Mildred Kohl run a small restaurant now. The only trouble, Mildred says, is that Ruth eats up all the profits. Margaret Leiswald is a hostess on an air liner. Ruth Mandel is in the news. She won a prize at the county fair with a pumpkin she raised in her truck garden. Loren Lenz has become a hermit and is living in a cave somewhere along the Elkhorn River. Nancy Jo Marts is deep within the jungles preaching to the natives of South Africa. Alvin Lincke won the National Cornhusking Contest this year and said he picked so fast that when he got in the wagon at the finish three ears hit him on the head. June McKnight and Jimmy are living happily south of Tilden and Junior is fine too, we're glad to hear. Woodrow Collins and Joe' Sullivan are hunting elephants in Africa. Woodie's wife, Jean Daniels, wanted an ivory comb and brush and Joe needed some new hunting stories. . Marjorie Munger reads recipes over the radio on her Kozy Kitchen Kollege program. Laurence Osborn in his spare time as a Wall Street Tycoon,, judges beauty contests, he has a special weakness for blondes. Dwayne Switzer is in the Ozarks: he says the civilized girls don't appreciate his crooning. Helen Phillips married the sword swallower of the Ringling Brothers Circus. ' - Don Wright is Meadow Grove's pool shark. Darlyne Schulze is happily married and is living somewhere in old Wyoming. . . ' Onita Risor is trying to assist her husband in a western state cream station. Inez Swarm tells her children to study hard in school to keep their grades above C level. A xx , x V JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY Twenty-seven students boarded the ship Graduation bound for the ports of Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior. Freshman bemg our first port and Senior our last, We started from the pon of Freshman but before we got under Way we chose.the following' as officers to guide us on the long journey to Senior . They were: President, Willard Wegnrg Vice-President, Timothy Terry, Sec. and Treas., Darvin Kohl, and Sergeant at Arms, Lucille Lewis. On board our ship we enjoyed various parties under the sponsorship of Mr. Quiller. Before we neared our next point we left Donald Zierkie and Billy Hash at different destinations. But just around the bend at Battle Creek we picked up Velma Clemens. We finally reached our next port Sophomore with our seamen no longer green as they had been on our first trip. Here Bob Cline and Darold Skeels joined our ranks. Before leaving port we chose the fol- lowing to guide us to our next port: Pres Eileen Berg V Pres., Donna Weikg Sec.-Tr., Pauline Schilling. We again enjoyed some parties under the able sponsorship of Mr. Andrews Before we had progressed far we dropped Darold Skeels and Velma Clement at Battle Creek, but Jay Wilson joined us at Milton Iowa 9, Having braved the seas for another year, we docked at port Junior where we were to begin a very busy year. We noticed that our enroll- ment had decreased two members, Cecil White and Donald Carpenter. Before pulling anchor we chose the following officers: Pres Jay Wilson V Pres., Donna Weikg Sec.,-Tr., Letha Buffingtdnu They also proved worthy of their offices as had previous officers. During the trip vse had many enjoyable parties under the sponsor- ship of Miss West and Miss Anderson. On sea we displaved our talent in the play, Deacon Dubbs, under the able direction of Miss West and Miss Anderson. The play cast included Twila Warnke, Letha Buffington, Pauline Schilling, LaVona Pugh Dolly Lewis Jerry Cloyd, Willard WVegner, Harold Cornett, Darvin Kohl and Joseph Schmid. We also gave a J mior-Senior banquet which was an event to be long remembered by all Juniors and Seniors. We have in our midst athletes, vocalists and dramatists who all have promising futures Now just beyond the waves lays our last port Senior which we hope to reach at the end of 1942. May the rest of our faithful seamen finish the remainder of our trip together. -Dolly Lewis. t 1 X 5 S L5 .- rj sk ix . . Out of this came some of M. G's. best basketball players and the best team ever to represent this school. Why do I say this? Let's look at the record since some may not have had the privilege of watching the boys work. We finished third pace in the Cornbelt Conferenceg third place in the Cornbelt Tournament, we were the District Class B champions, representing rthis district in state finals at Lincoln. Laurence Osborn-a veteran senior forward and interchangable guard. Red performed the best ever this year with a record few could equal. Chosen as one of the ten best players at both Cornbelt and the District B Tourney. Red was one of the bog cogs in the wheel that rolled to Lincoln. ' Reed Dye, lanky, aggressive junior center whose ghost will roam the opponent's hardwood fioors for many a year: chosen as one of the ten best at Cornbelt and District meets, he and Red combined proved the greatest front line threat shown on any floor. Woodrow Collins-Although this is his first and last year at bask- etball in M. G., he proved his worth by placing third in scoring ability for the season. Woody stood out in defensive work, Time and again men lost possession of the ball from his constant rushing. He will truly be missed-fortunate thing for the opponents. Kenneth Galyen-The sophomore fireball special guard of M. G. His first year as a first squad member brings a swell of joy in the f-oach's chest. The reason-Kenny proved at the close of the season that he was potentially the drivingest guard on the fioor. His last four games netted points equal nearly to the total of the first 18 games. Our only last word is wait 'till next year. Gene Phillips-One of the smoothest ball handlers to be seen. proved that the first year on the team doesn't mean a thing. Rusty and Kenny proved that driving and timing can make a couple of formidable guard, which in this case is inevitable, Here's to a top M. G. guard. Loren Lenz-finishing up with a bang-up game of ball, Shim has shown what height, speed and rebounding does to the hearts of his opponents. He has been the best man in 'get the ball off the backboard.' Marvin Nelson-here is the example that inexperience couldn't keep a good man down. When the reserve strength and power was needed. Ma'vin was called to 'hold those guys down.' Willard Wegner-at the beginning of the season great hopes were held for Willard, He no more than got in the saddle when the flu claimed a go-getter of a forward. The best can be expected of him next sason and I mean best. ' Benny Osborn-Yes, a reserve that couldn't be overlooked if there had been fifty out for basketball. That dribble and pacing will take him deep into the opponents territory for the next three years. Harold Cornett-when the boys began to let up, Hlerby was called upon to give more power. He's got one more year and its going to be a great season for M. G. fans. Don Wright-Student Manager. connoisseur of the basketballs, scorekeeper, photographer. The ubiquitous man of the team. AND last, but most important. our regular feller, the Coach, Mr. Thomsen. He put into the boys the needed experience. There's some- thing about him that would make any team Win. To him the boys, especially the seniors say, thanks and good luck to one swell guy. -Sports Ed., Don Wright. , A i xi i 3 is 5 9 l N ,ps 0' xfqx I V SUCCESS THRU BETTER VISION Congratulations to the memb- ers of the class of 1941 and best wishes for your future success.
