A TRIBUTE TO THE MAN IN THE BELL TOWER Born in Washington. D.C.. the son of an Episcopal Clergyman. Mr. Francis J. Hinkel has spent many years perfecting his musical abili- ties. He received a Bachelor of Mu- sic degree with honors from the New England Conservatory of Mu- sic in Boston. Massachusetts in 1949. In 1951. he received a Master of Music degree from there, also. Mr. Hinkel has served in the Unit ed States Army. He is a life member of Pi Kappa Lambda Honorary Musi- cal Fraternity, a life member of the American Guild of Organists, an ac- tive member of Phi Mu Alpha Smfo- nia Fraternity, the Abilene Opera Association, and the Abilene Music Teachers Association. Mr. Hinkel first came to McMurry College in 1952. and presently serves as Professor of Music. In his leisure time. Mr. Hinkel has enjoyed reading, writing, hiking, bi- cycling. horseback riding, swim- ming. and reciting limerics. Because of all his accomplish ments. dedication, and contribu tions to the academic life of McMurry Coflege. the 1985-86 TO- TEM Staff has selected Mr. Francis J.
