Golfers Tee n Season An individual's perfor- mance really had an IM- PACT in a sport like golf as each individual's score added up to be the team 's total. The Varsity golfers proved a formidable foe to other l'l.Y.L. teams as they had an even record of 4 wins and 4 losses early in the season. With this type of performance, the High- landers were certain to rank high in the league standings at the end of the season. Consistent scorers were Seniors Brett Flynn and Guy Rivera along with Sophomores Vince Koji- gian and Jim Monson. A Jr. varsity team added real depth to the team, which meant a better team for next year. Tennis Players Swing In to Action he boy's and girl 's ten- nis teams started off the season with a full squad, including junior var- sity groups, which kept the number one player constant- ly improved to keep their standing. girls played hard fought matches with the other league schools and defeated Roosevelt 6-5. The J.lL's overcame Fresno High 5-1 for their first win. The num- ber one spot was rotated be- tween Raquel Rice and Me- linda Kogoma with Julie Sir- ois and Debbie Plunes right behind. The leading doubles team put Jill Fitzgerald with either Kogoma or Sirois. The boys likewise had a struggle getting in the win column. Their first victory over Sanger 5-4 was very sat- isfying. Sophomore Andy Kasner played the number one posi- tion all year supported by Oravanh Maokhamphiou in the number two spot. The Highlanders J.V. players were successful against Sanger, Madera, and Roose- velt.
