Front Row: Dannelle Trapp, Sandy Graham, Kristi Mills, A yanna Taylor, Marilu Rodriguez, Dee Dee Trapp. High Hopes For Varsity Hoops typified the Girls Varsity Basket- ball team this year, despite a dis- mal 5-9 league record. The squad dominated Roosevelt, defeating them Hrst in the NYL tour- nament and twice during league play. In the Hrst victory over the Rough Riders, senior center Karen Ballard scored 55 pts., breaking the old school record of 51. She then went on to have a 58 point game against RHS and 57 points in a hard fought 75-62 loss to Madera. Ballard made quite an IMPACTas she Hnished as the H YL 's leading scorer with a 22.5 pt. average in 12 games. The girls played well against both Clovis and Clovis West but were not able to get the wins. They ended their season on a positive note by beating Edison 50-42 at McLane. The major weakness that plagued the groups performance was their in- experience, but their good chemistry allowed them to stick together as a team. Although lacking height, the J.lA team 's tough defense and hard work kept them in games. The top scorer on the squad was sophomore Jenni- fer Anderson. The Frosh girls showed their poten- tial as future J. V. and Varsity players by winning more games than any oth- er freshman girls basketball teams in years past.
