Getting The Word To The Campus l986-87 Newspaper Sta1TAt Work splash of color on the front and back pages of the Tartan was the big- 'est IMPACT feature added to 're newspaper this year. Changing the style of head- ne and modernizing the 'rasthead were additional hanges which updated the pa- ver and helped to provide a top ritique rating by the San Joa- 'uin Press Association. Editor Michele Alaniz eager- V got the stat? organized and 'ublicized the first issue early 1 September. To acquaint all he students to the publica- ion, this issue was distributed 'ee to everyone. l'm really proud that the newspaper has progressed, l really had an excellent staff and page editors, especially my sidekick editor Devoya, stated Michele. Writing about everyday cam- pus life was the bulk ofthe arti- cles. Discovering information about students who otherwise would not be in the Tartan was also a challenge. Foreign ex- change students and new teachers were focused on early in the year. Casin the Campus, and relat- ed stories expressed views of the student body. Letters to all students had an opportuni- ty to let their wishes be known. Knowing how to write, and write well was an important part of producing the Tartan. Keeping abreast of the activi- ties on campus, taking pic- tures and getting ads was a hassel but was successfully ac- complished over and over again throughout the year. New Sports Editor Marilu Ro- deriquez expressed, It was really fun being the Tartan Sports Editor and I 'd like to thank all the sports writers who made this year a great exper- ience! the Editor were accepted and f , . A Very Successful Homecoming Week ll hanks to all of you McLane 's homecom- ing was a big success tated Mr. Joe Kasner, activity 'irector, Monday morning fter homecoming week. Ev- ryone was very supportive fith every thing from the noon- ime activities, rally, to the ootball game. Yelling, screaming, laughing nd having a good time filled JcLane's campus. The many roontime activities kept the unch time alive and fun. Among the weeks activities were Tennis Shoe Day, Beach! awaiian Day, Crazy Hair Day, lash and Herd Day, and end- g the week was the famous Red and White Day. 1986-87 Homecoming Everyone was very competi- tive and supported the activi- ties. Each day a new activity was introduced and the search for participants was on. Highland- ers especially enjoyed the raw egg toss which generally end- ed with a big splat. There was also the spiked hat activity which was a very wet exper- ience. The homecoming rally at- tracted enough students to pack the gymnasium. The IM- PACT ofthe whole rally was the special group flown in from Hollywood known as the Beach Boys which entertained with popular hits. The many fun ac- tivities and entertainment 'ere's always room for one more as shown here by the freshmen waving to the Jwd. made the crowd go crazy with yelling. Showing they could yell the loudest the spirit stick was won by the seniors. As the bleachers started to Hll with students and parents it became relevant that they were there to see one heck of a ex- citing game. With the help and support from the crowd McLane defeated Edison with a chopping score of 54 to 21. Homecoming Queen Chrissy West accepted the crown from last year's Queen Stacy Lom- bardi. Junior Princess Jennifer Findley, Sophomore Princess Tami Graham, and Freshman Princess Jennifer Tavares, made up the royal court. Bringing the beach to the homecoming pa- rade are the flag girls. ,, y' W1 ff' Tl! Representing the Greacan class are Amanda Wilson and Tricia Bruce in a 1940 Ford Con- vertible.
