. a time to study LATIN LATIN-Although no longer a spoken language, Latin, never- theless, is the parent of many modern languages. The two-year Latin course is designed to give the student a better understand- ing of his own language and a deeper appreciation of the in- debtedness of modern civilization to Roman civilization to Roman learning and institutions. SPANISH .IOURNALISM-The bi-monthly edition of THE LION ROAR gives the student practical experience in the make-up of a newspaper. He learns to write copy briefly and to the point: who, what, when, where and why? Though now a mimeograph paper, the class has a sizeable bank account and continues to save to buy a printing press for the school some day. MUSIC SPANISH-Students improve their pronunciation with the tape recorder and by listening to Spanish records. Through conversational Spanish, augmented by necessary grammar study, students learn to speak, read and write the language. Cultural reading in the history and life of Spanish-speaking peoples give the student understanding of and a sympathy for these people. .IOURNALISM Before a student taking Band or Choral may receive credit for the course, he must take Music I which teaches the fundamen- tals of music making: time, scales, harmony. The Music De- partment is almost a civic organization because some part of it, band or chorus, performs for every public event and for local club programs.

ENGLISH HISTORY--Through studying history, the student's world be- comes larger until he becomes a citizen of the world. World History and American History teaches the fundamental values of democracy, trains for good citizenship, prepares the student for leadership and participation in his government, and pro- vides for the application of democratic principles in school life and everyday living. MATHEMATICS SCIENCE-Students learn Nature's method of making sulphur as they themselves reproduce it in the laboratory. Two years of natural science or one year of natural science and two years of foreign language are required for graduation. Courses are General Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. . . a time to learn ENGLISH-The dictionary is a daily tool the student uses to help him understand the new words he reads and hears. Words like impeccable, formidable and facetious. Words that help him understand the new ideas and new concepts that are being discussed today. Words that help him to express exactly and concisely what he wishes to say. The four-year course in English seeks to teach the student to write and speak correctly and to give him an appreciation for the literature of his language. HISTORY MATHEMATICS-In a time of atomic energy, H-bomb de- velopment, and talk of future trips to the moon, students are keenly interested in higher math, realizingtthat the exactitude and precision of math is the key to these new discoveries. Al- gebra, Geometry, Solid Geometry and Trigonometry are avail- able for students interested in practical as well as theoretical math. SCIENCE

AGRICULTURE-Vaccinating cattle, spraying and pruning fruit trees, raising prize calves, chickens and pigsg and dehorn- ing cattle are a few of the class activities of the ag boys. In his three years of Agriculture a student learns the different breeds of stock and poultry, farm management, soil conserva- tion, uses of different insecticides and modern, scientific methods of farming. N COMMERCIAL-Many shorthand students leave school at graduation to enter into business after having had extensive training in high schooli Typing, shorthand, commercial law, commercial arithmetic and training in business procedure are offered to students desiring business training. WOODWORK SHOP The pungent smell of sawdust and the burring of electric saws greet the visitor to the shop where each student dreams of making and finishing a beautiful and useful piece of furniture The best tools are at his disposal band saw, circle saw mitre saw planer jomter drill press and plenty of tables to work on During the Spring the furniture is displayed for the admiration of high school students HOMEMAKING-Sewing by pattern eliminates guess work and insures correct cutting and a neat fit Girls also learn the dxf ferent fabrics best suited for a particular pattern adjusting the pattern to fit, and sewing smoothly on electric machines Cooking new recipes in the most modern method produces a meal both tasty and attractive After preparing the meal stu dents serve it correctly Good grooming etiquette health and personality development are included in the course DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION-Students, working in local stores during the afternoons, attend regular classes in the morn- ing. In D. E. they learn salesmanship, store courtesy, details and background of the objects they sell. He learns which is the best article and why and then learns to sell the article. Only juniors and seniors may take D. E. and receive two credits each year while earning the prevailing wage.
