SIGMA ZETA On June 9, 1926, Sigma Zeta created a Beta chapter on the McKendree College cam- pus, making it the second chapter nationally. The chap- ter hod been lax for many years but was reborn in the fall of 1985 with the help of advi- sor Dr. Richard McGuire. Sigma Zeta is an organiza- tion for science majors with iary Schilling, President; Ann Schroeder, Vice-President; Donna Schilling, Secretary; Dr. Rich- ■d McGuire, Advisor; Ted St, Clair, Treasurer; Not pictured: Dr. Gary O ' Connor, Advisor. high grade point averages. Be- sides the traditional biology and chemistry majors, mem- bers may also major in com- puter science or mathematics. On campus this past year, Sigma Zeta prepared the greenhouse for the plant sale in the spring, hosted speaker Dr. Nevin Aspinwoll, composed a formula book to sell to stu- dents, converted a science lab into a science study room, and planned a Spring Picnic. For community projects, they set up and judged science fairs at a local grade school, formed a slide presentation of the sci- ence and computer depart- ments, and organized a raffle for Alan Droste. Nationally, the Beta chapter wrote a grant proposa l for $2500 from the Pittsburgh Conference. In April, they plan on attending the national conference in Eu- reka, IL. Students ' papers will be presented. 19
