KAPPA LAMBDA IOTA The Clionian Literary Soci- ety, or Clio as it is known, is a women ' s society open by invitation to any woman who has a 2.00 or better cu- mulative G.P.A. Clio was founded in 1 869 as the first society for women on McKendree ' s campus. McKendree has developed and grown through the years, and Clio with it; the Clionians have strived for learning, as well as college and self-betterment through the literary service and social endeavors of its members. Dave LeSar, Perry Harms, Ken Taylor — President, and Scott Lampnch, The Philosophian Literary Soci- ety, founded in 1837, has the dis- tinction of being the oldest literary society west of the Alleghenies and the third oldest in the nation. The organization was founded to promote literary advancement and poise among students. Membership in the organization is open to all male students who meet and maintain the academic requirements of the College and are returning or transfer students. Philo celebrated their 150th anni- versary this year. Philo has an ac- tive social program including the Philo Formal. 13
