Many players contributed to this successful season. Rick Stumpe is the only loss to graduation. Rick is an aggres- sive player that has a never say die attitude. He can rip the net faster than most and his constant hustle earned him re- spect around the district. He averaged 18.8 points per game and will be a hard player to re- place. Roger Kingston is the defen- sive specialist on the team. He never scores a lot but contrib- utes far more than what is no- ticeable. He is the type of play- er that takes an assist over pos- sible points. When there is a pressure situation you can bet that Coach Statham will have him in the lineup. Kingston is a junior this year and so will also be back next year. Dave Mordhorst is the ju- nior center that had a sub-par year because of a late injury. Dave is a fine outside shooter and is quick on his feet. He is looked upon to play many roles on the team. He also plays an enforcer role in the middle. He is the team captain and is one of only two two-year start- ers. Walter Rogers is a freshman guard that is a pleasant surprise for the team. When John Bat- son became ineligible, Walter had the task of running the team. This was a difficult situa- tion for the freshman. He han- dled the pressure very well and supplied a scoring output that wasn ' t expected. Walter is a good player in all aspects of the game and is expected to de- velop into a force to be dealt with. Rick Ross is a seasoned vet- eran that brought stability to a young team. He is primarily a rebounder but has had some good scoring games. He took Coach Stathem and Ken Cople another win. over the starting position vacated by Mord- horst ' s injury. Rick is also a fine ballhandler for a big man and is a versatile player. He averaged 7.3 points per game and 7.5 re- bounds. Morrie Fraser has proven to be an excel- lent shooter and a good defensive player. His playing time increased as the season pro- gressed. Fraser came into games and took up some of the scoring load as he had a good offensive output late in the se ason. He will be looked towards next year to replace Stumpe as an outside shooting threat. Larry Mueller, Brent Dudeck and Dave McFarland all played reserve roles on the team. These three players worked hard in practice despite getting little playing time and showed their dedication to the team. Another valuable member of the team is Jeff Krat Thornton, the manager. He played an important role by keeping the team ready for each game and was responsible for keep- ing the team laughing.

The men ' s basketball team ended its sea- son with a semi-final playoff game loss to St. Xaviet, 53-52. They reached that game by defeating Rosary in a first round playoff game held here at McKendree. The loss to St. Xavier was a disappointing way to end a season, but it was one of accomplishment and success. During the season, the team ex- perienced many highs and a few low points. The team finished with a record ot 22-11 and saw their coach reach a well-deserved milestone in his career.
