The 1985 McKendree Bearcats soccer team started off the season with high expectations, and they fulfilled those expactations easily. New head coach Bob Cordes brought 18 new players to McKendree this year, among them the best talent in this area. Three of those new players were All-State in high school. With only three re- turning players from last years squad, Cordes was able to shape almost an entirely new team, one noted for its goal-tending and the explosiveness of its offense. £j fci ' S Last year ' s District 20 Championship team fell short of making it three years in a row for the 1984 season, as they defeat- ed Chicago State, Eureka College, and St. Francis College, but lost to Quincy Col- lege to finish 3rd in the state. Before they had begun post-season play, they had been ranked 11th in the state. Three members of the squad, juniors Lori Junker, Barb Klingelhoefer, and Linda Parker were named to the NAIA District 20 (State of Illinois) Team, and were also voted All-American.
