That evening Miss Jean Scheller was crowned the 1982 Home- coming Queen! A dinner and dance was held at Buckley ' s Restaurant to highlight the festivities. 1. The 1982 McKendree College Women ' s Volleyball team finished the season with a 20-6 record. They finished as the NAIA District 20 Champions. Bi-District Champions, and 12th in the NAIA. The following awards were given at the Fall Sports Banquet: Most Valuable Player: Lanna DeFrates Best Offensive Player: Patty Rule Best Defensive Player: Patty Monroe Sportsmanship Award: Jean Scheller The McKendree Bearcat basketball squad proved in their 82-83 season that determi- nation can lead to a winning season. With four returning starters, the Bearcats went from a 10th ranked position to an impres- sive 4th. The squad then dropped a 5th towards the end of the season after losing a heartbreaking decision to Chicago State University. McKendree went into the play- offs in 5th and lost their first round game to Aurora 65-69, and finished their season with a successful 20-9 record. Bearcat Senior Jay Sodini wasgiven special honors throughout the season. He was named all- district and rated nationally in several categories during the season. Senior Kip Pabst was honored with the Louis Vessely Memorial Scholarship for his academic and athletic achievements.
