Ladies and Gentlemen -MCK presents the season 1980! Somebody once said that the world was a stage, and all people were actors on that stage. That ' s why I chose to arrange this yearbook in the format of a TV season. The maority of students here have grown up with television, and it ' s been a good-or bad- part of their lives. Television seems to reflect life in a lot of eerie ways. As you look through this book you ' ll see the resemblance. The students, of course, are the cast -the actors and actresses that play the lives and experience the many facets of college life which are portrayed in this book. Every television show has a group of people working with and for the cast -the Executives, our Administra- tion, and the crew members, our Faculty and Staff. The whole iVlcKendree College situation is similar to a TV channel - we even have our own call letters - MCK. We have vanous TV shows here on campus, for example, The Wide World of Sports (or is that Wild?), Animal Kingdom, (guess!). The Big Event, lots of Candid Camera shows, a few Real People shows, Mod Squad, Masterpiece Theater, Dragnet, Get Smart, even Award Shows!! We have had a great season here at McKendree (maybe I should say channel MCK.) We tned to get a little bit of everything crunched into this book which took an Incredible amount of work. We seemed to have quite a lot of trouble on the network which resulted in a lot of events and organizations not being pictured. We had snags In communica- tions with professional photographers who were supposed to capture the Big Event -Homecoming -which was then held hostage by said photographer for many months, before being released harmed and severely weakened (see pages 81-96). This yearbook is one of the more expensive books In recent years. Each added detail or decoration on each page ADDS UP QUICKLY, but we felt that since your tuition money would be used in SOME way, it might as well be in a book that you would get to keep free of charge. So we tried to make it an enjoyable book at least, if not a great TV Guide. This is the first year for Advertisements in the McKendrean, and it was a real thnll walking up and down Lebanon ' s street begging antique-store owners to buy a 25-dollar ad. As you can see, not many did (ask Gwen Frederking how she feels about yearbook ads). We had planned on ten pages, raking in a cool $1,000, but $150 is better than $0. As you may or may not have known, an amount equal to tuition for 32 credits was divided among the four co-editors of the REVIEW and the MC- KENDREAN, around $705 for each person, which may or may not have been earned. I feel like this was a heck of a lot of money for doing something I like, so while I eagerly accepted this pay, I also tried to listen to everyone ' s ideas and suggestions for the kxjok. A yearbook may not be a great literary effort, but it is still planned as such and must follow a basic theme, so it was impossible to use all the ideas. I tried to sound ideas out on people (especially Barnett First since they were handy) and I did drop some of my most stupid ideas (although you may not believe that after reading this t)ook). I wanted everyone to be In on the progress all along, and many people were interested In helping, but it ' s very hard to keep a person working in the same direction as the rest of the book without some sort of supervision, and it was kind of hard for me to ask someone to help at 3:30 am, which was best the tjest time for me to create. The main help from others came in the form of sympathy and encouragement, ( Hey, I APPRECIATE IT!! ) So the book is finally here, we worked hard, I hope you enjoy and like it, and don ' t mention the word yearbook to me for the next twenty years. (!).
