THREE ON A BENCH, by Doris Estrada, is a humorous inter- lude in the life of a busybody who squeezes herself into the middle of a park bench between a quarreling young couple. By her clever manipulations, she brings them together so that young love triumphs. She hesitates, however, when the friendly policeman indicates that spring may arouse that same ten- der passion in the not- so-young. (L to R) David McKenzie, Marion Rood, Kathleen Bryant, Skip Rezba. William Saroyan ' s HELLO OUT THERE is the call of one lonely soul reaching out to touch another lonely soul. The unknown drifter, jailed for rape, in the few minutes left before his death at the hands of the angry husband, strips away hypocrisy and arrogance to show truth and love in the inner recesses of the most humble. S. P. , China, Woman ' s Lib, and Oriental philosophy and religion. Pierre Salinger ' s visit in November brought to us an in- sight into the many duties and humorous incidents of a presidential Press Secretary ' s life. Going on to Broadway , the musical I Do! I Do! , we found ourselves touched with Jack and Sally Jenkin ' s delightful presentation of 50 years of marital ups and downs . The warm, entertain- ing personality of British folk singer Peter Sayers will re- main with us for years. The Spurrlow sound which filled the ' gym in February entertained a very enthusiastic stand- ing room only crowd. Women ' s liberationist Flo Kennedy, along with China expert John McCook Roots and Zen Buddhist philosopher Alan Watts, had enlightened us greatly and had stimulated our thinking. The St. Louis Quartet concert was one to remember, with jazz at its finest and Jeanne Trevor ' s brilliant voice. Touching the year off with husband and wife, Bruce and Dixie Innes ' s delightful folk -rock tunes and Russ Burgess ' surprising E. S.P. lecture- demonstration, it was a very good year. . . ' St. Louis Quartet UL-Terrance Kippenberger UR-Jeartne Trevor LL- Charles Payne LR-Dave Schrage The classic wit of Shaw as seen in ARMS AND THE MAN furnished a vehicle for laughter in the spring production of the drama department. The play is reminiscent of earlier melodrama, but modern in its effort to seek out the artificial and the pom- pous in the hither-to sacred ideals of romantic love, of glorified soldiers, and of fashionable aristocracy. m Congratulations . 1971-72 Bearcat Basketball M 3S 23 4S Vu% Wayne Loehring Bill Biggerstaff Jim Bunge Lloyd Steinkamp Dan Johnson Dennis Grohms (L-R) Frank Washington, Grag Taylor, Don Burris, Dennis Grohmann, Dan Johnson, Jim Bunge, Lloyd Steinkamp. There are over 500 chapters with a membership of over 150, 000 men. A. P.O. ' s main objectives are to promote leadership, provide friendships, and service to the communi- ty, school, and nation. Chi Omega, formally Alpha Kappa Tau, was founded in 1967 with the ideals of promoting leader- ship, friendship, and service to all intents and purposes for the Campus. The society is active in many service projects throughout the school year creating a unity of Brotherhood be- tween members and benefiting the Campus and surrounding communities. In the spring of 1972, AKT became a charter member of the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. The chapter name is Chi Omega and is the only national fra- ternity on the McKendree Campus. Chi Omega chapter prides itself on providing service when- ever needed and great unity between brothers. 1. Gaylan Lapka 2. Mr. Maneke, Ad 3. Leonard Starling 4. Not only was Clio the first society for women, but the earliest president was the first woman to graduate from McKendree. Being a social and literary society, Clio has contributed to the li- brary and worked with the various Fine Arts committees on our campus. Presently we have members affiliated in almost every campus ac- tivity. We have a strong bond of loyalty, many years of sisterhood, and are all quite proud to be Clionians. Kappa Lambda lota 1. As such, Plato is the oldest social society in the United States west of the Allegheny Mts. , but Plato is a social society with a purpose, the promotion of Brotherhood amoung our members. With the in- stallation of Brotherhood, the qualities of Lead- ership, Scholarship, and Courage command the respect of all other societies on America ' s Col- lege Campuses. Alpha Omega Society was installed on the campus of McKendree College on November 23, 1954. Previous to that time, there was one other women ' s society on the campus. There were 16 charters at that time. These members all graduated and the charter of Alpha Omega lapsed to be renewed again in November, 1970. The present society con- sists of 24 members. Believing that a social society is the unifica- tion of persons for the common purpose of promoting fellowship, friendly and beneficial communication between individuals, and groups, and that a social program is a vital need in the life of every college student. The purpose of Alpha Omega shall be to es- tablish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the so- cial, cultural, and intellectual life, and to assit its members in every possible way. 1.
