' N H MC KEAN 67 DEDICATED TD SKIPPER The officers and crew of MC KEAN have dedicated MC KEAN 67 to our skipper, Commander William Howard Hawkins. For those who know our old man a biog- raphy is unnecessary, for his interesting career is easily revealed by his endless source of entertaining sea stories. The influence of Captain Hawkins' back- ground is also evident in his actions as MC KEAN's Commanding Officer. While his experience as an enlisted man during 'iv- World War ll has given him the under- standing to deal fairly with his men, it has also given him insight into their capabilitieso By matching those capabilities with real responsibility, he has encouraged us all to improve o u r s e l ve sp and in the process MC KEAN has improved as well. lt is because he has given us pride in our- selves and in the Mighty Mac that we are proud to dedicate this book to our Com- manding Officer.
