Not only do language students gain at least a brief knowledge of the language they are studying, they also keep up with present happenings in the coun- tries where the language is spoken. Those who study languages improve their vocabularies, learn of the legends and customs of the peoples, and promote better understanding between American citizens and citizens of other countries.
