High School Principal , , - Above: Mrs. Ruth Blair Right: Mr. Charles Lehlasiers ln these times peoples of the whole world grope and pray for some way of life which will give them, as groups and as individuals within the groups, freedom, liberty, happiness, and peace. This nation believes that a living democracy can offer these things. Schools must proceed courageous- ly und creatively to teach the values of democrat ic citizenship through living. It is necessary to make comparisons with schools of thirty-five or forty years ago to indicate more clearly the great strides that modern education has made. At that time only a small per- centage of the youth of secondary school age were in school and these were interested primarily in the professions. Today, in addition to the mastery of the basic skills, popularly referred to as the three R's, the school is responsible for the development of a wide range of human skills, per- sonality growth. and the like-all demanded by present-day living within a democracy. Your school has attempted to help you to learn how to work together cooperatively, think critic- ally, and gain gnowledge of the past to help interpret the present and to prepare for the future.
