Linder, P. O'Uonnell, B. Smith. V i i Hub Boasting fifty aspiring young journalists, this years' Hub, the official newspaper by the students and for the students of Millcreek High, grew to a circulation of approxi- mately 850 copies per issue. Published bi-monthly throughout the school year, the news- paper is a spark plug in our everyday school life, covering all the sporting events and club news, with many added special features, and supporting and sponsoring many activities outside of school. Eight point type, which is a smaller type of print than employed in last year's newspaper, was initiated into the Hub this year, providing added space for more copy and -more for your money, the six-page paper still selling for five cents a copy. The special insert sheet, containing junior and senior high gossip, was again a popular fea- ture ofthe Hub. Many different colors were used for this sheet, such as harvest yellow for Halloween, green for December, and blue, our school color. A contest, sponsored in conjunction with the Library Club, was conducted beginning Book Week, fashioned after the Twins contest in an Erie newspaper. ' The victory of President Eisenhower was predicted by the Republicans of Millcreek in a straw vote conducted by the Hub the week before the country went to the polls. A busload of enthusiastic sports fans traveled to Conneaut to witness the defeat of the Trojans from Conneaut by the Trojans from Millcreek under the auspices of the stu- dent newspaper, and during football season they held a dance after the Oil City game. The striking blue and white school pennants adorning many a students room and dis- played on sticks at basketball games were another project of the ambitious group. A sizeable contribution to the Easter seal campaign was made from the proceeds of the Hub charity basketball game in March. Two games, between game entertainment, and a dance afterwards were all provided for only 25c. The co-editors of this bubbling tribe of writers were Travis Altman and Catherine Evans. and Miss Winder guided the students in their work. C837
