E f l -if L The flow of printer's ink and adjectives from room 11 each day illustrate the amount of energy and time spent by the members of the BISON STAFF in publishing the school newspaper. The staff, which consists of members of the journalism class, devotes several hours each week to securing news with sufficient reader interest to warrant publication in the bi-weekly school organ, The Bison. The past year, the staff has enjoyed the supervision and instruction of Mr. Hennigan and under his guidance has succeeded in improving the paper. The ap- pearance of the publication on alternate Fridays adds immeasurably to school life and represents a big piece in the development of student interest in school affairs. The part played by members of the Bison staff in assembling a picture of high school life is great and one which merits increased support. The play was a grand success despite these morose faces ,ftcfiv Ziff One of the largest and most important pieces we found to include in our picture of MHS school days is the one which includes the many activities engaged in hy the citizens of MHS. The activities are widely varied and a necessity for the person who is building a complete picture of his high school days. Activities are the salt of high school life hut as one educator once said, 'gshould not hecome the food. They are. however, a prime necessity for they help to maintain the high prestige HHS enjoys among Cornhusker prep schools. Participation in MHS activities marks the individual as a leader and a credit to his Red and White colors. A person who is proud of the NM he represents is glad to join in group activities to improve even further the fame and honor won hy previous generations of MHS graduates. The seniors of 552 have made activity participation a must - may the graduates of future years let activities reign on its present throne of success and respect. Ki 0 v4Wlll'!l' We, the seniors of 1952, are indeed proud to present our Bison Award to CAROLYN KENNEDY for her outstanding scholarship and excellent lead- ership in school affairs. Carolyn has been an outstanding member of Red Peppers for three years, serving her senior year as Merit Keeper. Efficient and faithful ex- ecution of her duties was a large factor in her election to this post and to a place on the Annual Staff. Other honors have been won in County Government where she served as County Clerk. It is, however, in the field of scholarship that Carolyn excels. A consistent high average has won three scholarship awards for her and ranks her at the top among this year's graduates. The sen- iors find deep satisfaction in having been able to extend this honor to one of MHS7s outstanding students. 'i We, the seniors of 1952, are indeed pleased to present this yearis Bison Award to DON LIE- BERTH in recognition of his outstanding leader- ship and contributions to school betterment. Donis primary interest has been in the field of athletics, where he has excelled in football, basket- ball and track. The diminutive senior won his mono- gram as a junior in the cage sport and has been in M Club the past year. Donis excellent personal traits were rocognized by his selection as Man of the Year during the football season. His other active interests include participation on the Bison Corral committee, of which he has been a member during his high school days. Don served as a County Commissioner in the County Government program and on the Annual Staff during his senior year. October 18. when the cit- izens of MHS flocked to the annual bon fire held behind the high school. The warmth of the fire hardly matched the spirit and enthusiasm of the Red Peppers and the many other Bison partisans that assembled to cheer MHS on to victory. Fol- lowing the bonfire. the traditional snake dance found its way along Norris avenue to a downtown rallying spot. Next day, school spirit reached its climax as Color Day came at last. First came the M Club sponsored rally with the presentation of the skit written and produced by M Club members. President Chapel introduced the actors. i l Then followed a production which would have been the envy of Shakespeare. The acting may not have been polished but the spirit was there as the Saints in Heaven went about their business of examining prospective tenants. Notable rejections included a well known sports writer and the foe for the eveningis football contest, the Alliance Bulldogs. After the saintly Bison triumphed over the evil Alliance devil, another parade formed to continue the show of enthusiasm. Led by the midwest marching band champions. the MHS band, the pep club and hundreds of other boosters marched downtown to prove that 'iwe've got the vim, weave got the pepf' Following the downtown rally, all hands had to be content for a brief lull in activity before the final salvo was fired at Weiland stadium for the gridiron con- test. The play found the basis of its hilarity in the zany actions of Hildegarde in relation to her date to the prom. Freddie, the lad with whom Hilde- garde had a date, was relegated to the low spot on the social totem pole because his parents made the poor chap wear knickers. To make matters worse, it appeared as if he would have to wear them to the prom. However, through various schemes concocted by the two teenagers, the situation finally looked better.
