McCallie, a Presby- terian minister, gave to his sons, Spencer ,larnagin and James Park, better known to McCallie boys as Professor and HDoctor,,' the McCallie School site and fathered the project of a Christian pre- paratory school for boys. A third bro- ther, Dr. Tornf' pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, was president of the school for many years. From small beginnings - Founderfs Home, the academic building Cnow Middle Hallj , which replaced the first frame school building, and Douglas Hall, a two-story dormitory when built-McCallie,s physical plant has steadily been developed step by step. North and South Halls and the concrete block gym were followed later by Lockett Lodge and Alumni Hall start- ing the modern building program. Now it stands-the fulfillment of a fifty-year dream -the last units, Davenport Memorial Gymnasium, Hutcheson and Maclellan Halls and the beautiful new chapel, crowned by the Campbell Tower.
