Fzftietk A nn iafermzf Convocvztion May l9, 20, and 21, 1955, were red-letter days for McCallie students, faculty, alumni, patrons, and friends, but to no one did they mean more than to Dr. and Mrs. J. P. lVleCallie who had been a part of Mcflalliels entire fifty-year history and to whom the Chapel dedication meant the fulhllment of a life- long dream. The Convocation unfolded smoothly, following the Well-laid plans of the chairman, Dr. Bob Mc- Callie. Before the general program Thursday after- noon, trustees. faculty and members of the McCallie family gathered in the chapel lobby for the unveil- ing of the busts of the co-founders, the work of Miss Belle Kinney. The busts, gift of the trustees, were presented by Mr. Robert L. Maclellan, vice-presi- dent of the Board, who paid tribue to 'iProfessor and Doctor. DOCTOR A personal triumph. Brown, senior trustee of the school, presided at the dedieatory ex- ercises. Selections by the Clee Club, a salute from the lVlid-South Association by Colonel C. R. Endsley of T.M.l., and the dedication of the Campbell lVle- morial Tower by Dr. J. P. lVlCCallie preceded the address by Dr. Francis P. Gaines, president of Washington and Lee University, a McCallie patron and one of the Southis great orators. Following his eloquent address Dr. James L. Fowle, pastor ofthe First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, gave the dedicatory prayer. More than eight hundred were guests of the school at the bullet slipper held in Davenport Memorial Gymnasium.
