1U BJUDOQ 1974 Cov i by DCHUtXfc c$6£$ off’74 Memories of the 1973-1974 school year at Maysville High School echo. They echo down the hallways lined with trophy cases, crammed with students changing classes, a gymnasium and foot- ball field teaming with the fervor of competitive spons, and audi- torium filled with the satisfaction of musical and dramatic per- formances , and classrooms abounding with better comprehension of ideas, the beginning of wisdom. The real Maysville High School is not only these structures because they house the student body and the faculty, which give them purpose. M. H. S. is the entire realm of experiences shared among students and between students and faculty members, per- sonal relationships as well as a formal education. The lives of people who leave M. H. S., faculty members and students alike, echo these experiences. They have participated in a metamorphosis which changes both ideas and personalities. Many things happen in a year. In these few pages the 1973-74 ''Bulldog seeks to reflect these events, personalities, and experiences - memories that echo. 4 He's got L'eggs. ” 6 J ■ ■ IVldO0 RDUQcRTEtj «NI 1974 12 14 QfiidcM Piesewfr '7ti P i Idiot’ ’ Combining the initiative of several talented seniors and the capabilities of Mrs. Robert Kimble and Miss Mary Beth Helton The Per- fect Idiot proved to be a big success. The three act comedy concerned a boy gen- ius' fmstrating, and often humorous way of life. With the help of some schoolmates the boy genius” became the school playboy. Much comic relief was added by Mr. Lath- erby, a full time soap salesman, part time bunny rabbit. The seniors of '74 wish to thank all people who gave their time and effort to make The Perfect Idiot perfect. 17 20 4 Relaxing on the way. Fifty-eight seniors boarded chartered buses at 6:30 the Tuedsay morning after Easter for a long, but very memorable senior trip. Talking, playing cards, reading magazines, and eating goodies, including all Mr. Jett's chocolate chip cookies, passed the long trip to Atlanta. After checking in the Holiday Inn, they left for a night in Underground Atlanta. There they enjoyed pizza, live entertainment, shops, museums, and places of attraction on the streets of the Underground. Wednesday they traveled to St. Augustine's Potter's Wax Museum, which contains many historical figures. At Marineland, dolphins, sea cows, and a screaming whale entertained them. After a five-minute splash in the ocean, they got back on the buses to find the motel which would be their home for the next two nights. Finally checking in the sixth Howard Johnson's, they were soon back in the water for a moonlight swim. Thursday passed quickly at Disney World, with ghosts, tree houses, a speech by Lincoln, a parade, and race cars. After twelve hours of Disney World, they left with huge stuffed animals, and sunburns. Friday morning, the seniors packed their suitcases and loaded the bus with oranges and grapefruits to begin the trip home. Along the way, at Silver Springs, they hung out glass-bottom boats trying the catch fish with bare hands. The long bus ride back was spent playing cards, singing hits of the 50’s, telling jokes, and some people even slept. The two Greyhounds unloaded on Saturday with exhausted seniors and memories of an enjoyable trip. The newly formed Maysville High School For- eign Language Club, sponsored by Mrs. Helen Smoot, is composed of fifty-two members. The dropping of Latin I from the curriculum this year and the increase of French students brought about the decision to change the former Latin Club into a French-Latin Club. This allows stu- dents of both languages to share ideas and apply the knowledge of foreign languages to everyday life. Club members enjoyed having guest speakers, a Christmas party, skits, and a Spring Bouquet. w Ou 9 b c I U b 73 T k V Cu rv b (V FIRST ROW: Debbie Poynter, Stephnaie Black, Laurie Wise, Maria Anastasiou, Mary Belle Poynter, Faye Mey- ers, Terri Lucas. It was another good year for the MHS band, started by winning a trophy in a Peebles, Ohio marching contest and climaxed by the spring concert. The band was on hand for the EKU band day parade, Mason-Fleming Airport dedica- tion , the Martin Luther Memorial Parade, and the MSU Band Contest. Especially notable were the superior solos given by Mark Wallingford, Nola Smoot, and Robert Wag- goner. Due to the poor condition of the band uniforms, the band and the Band Boosters, the parents of the band mem- bers, held several money-making projects. The success of their pancake fry, benefit concert, and T. V. raffle bought the dream of new uniforms a bit closer to realiza- tion. 84 Band Committee, FRONT ROW: Steve Blake, Jennie Lou Smith, Sherrie Gardner.
