PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED IN DETERMINING SENIOR PRIZE WINNERS
To be eligible for any prize a candidate must have been enrolled in this school
during the first semester of his Junior year and have attended from then until grad-
uation. Valedictorian and Salutatorian averages are figured through three and three
quarters years. All subject prizes cover four years.
VALEDICTORIAN, SALUTATORIAN: The weighted average as follows:
Four Units of English, four units of Citizenship Education, General Science
and either Health or Biology must be used by everyone. For the remainder of the
subjects, the candidate must claim enough to make 16 or more units. Band and Choir
grades will be disregarded. Regents or School final grades may be used except
that Regents grades must be used for English Three Years, World History and for
subjects in the major field in which Regents are given. Subjects claimed as 'major
must be included.
ENGLISH - The average of the final grades in English I, II, IV and English Three
SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS, FRENCH, HOMEMAKING, INDUSTRIAL ARTS
AND BUSINESS - In any of these fields any subjects required for a state diploma
and a major must be used plus two more subjects. Regents marks must be
used in all subjects in which Regents examinations are given.
OUTSTANDING SENIOR - Outstanding Senior selection is made by a committee of
the Secondary Faculty. They consider such factors as leadership, citizenship,
cooperation, the ability to get along with others, and scholastic average.
ATHLETICS - This selection is more or less a subjective one as there are too few
factors to be weighed objectively. A candidate must have earned five letters
to be eligible.
MUSIC - This selection will be made by the Music Instructor or Instructors. The
requirements are: A member of the band and choir, plus outstanding ability
which has been proven by participation in ope-rettas, concerts and competition.
