The distribution of diplomas was made by Harland N. Brown, school board member, and awards were presented by Principal James W. Smithers. Rev. Leo Hickock offered the invocation and benedictlon. Awards were received by Lucian A. Gilbert, valedictorian: Gordon Blowers, salutatoriang Gilbert, out- standing senior: Oretta Trevett, Englishp Blowers, citizenship edu- cation: Gilbert, science: Blowers, mathematics: Marlene Gifford, commercial, Maxine Mortimer, home economics: Donald Blowers, industrial arts: Jack Penny, ath- letics, and Gilbert, music. The valedlctory address, given hy Gilbert, was entitled, Our Atomic Age. Gordon Blowers, salutator- ian, addressed the topic, An Analysis of Propaganda. Audrey Zeh played a baritone sole of A Gilbert, Blowers Selected .s Valedictorian and alutatorian in Mayfield Lucian Gilbert has been namecl valediciorian ancl Gordon E. Blowers, salutatorian, of the I955 graduating class of the Mayfield Central School, James W. Smitliers, principal, an- nounced yesterclay. Vous by A. Pinard, and the Senior Choir, with the accompaniment of Miss Irene Asquith and Lucille Edwards sang Jacob's Ladder and You'll Never Walk Alone. The senior class advisor is Rob- ert I-I. Shaw. Marshalls were War- ren Baldwin and Burton Wilson. Ushers for the program were Janet- lee Montanye, Mary Jane May- nard, Dorothy Tyrell, Jean Phil- lips, Nancy Ulrich, Katherine Glf- ford, Catherine Glynn and Molly Williams. Kirkby ln his address told the graduates that for many years others have been dreaming of you, but now what of your own dreams. A study of geniuses, the speaker declared, shows this is one of the strongest factors in life. A ms.n's dreams, he asserted, and faith in himself are power greater than the atom. DaVinci, Kirkby added, dreamed 500 years ,ago of the automobile and airplane, but it was not until comparatively recent years that they were Invented. He pointed out that ln the last 50 years more progress has been made than in the previous' 5,000 years because of scientific methods peoples learned to use to make their dreams come true. Ralph Mancini and Helen Fisher were crowned king and queen of the Ball by Jarret Jennings.
