Weather has a large bearing on the operation of any ship, and the availability of the latest information and accurate forecasts are important requirements for successful planning1 All of the above are the job of OC Division, under the super- vision of LTj.g. S.L. joy. The RM's, led by REG. Peterson, RMCA, strive for rapid, re- liable, and secure operation of the ship's external communications systems. To the RM, any instant of the night or day may be the and accuracy is required. Mainly though, it is a routine 24 hour 8 day job at sea or in port. Radio Central has competently handled over 100,000 messages during this last cruise. 'Ihe AC-'s or weather guessers, under j.D. Odell, AG2, have the job of forecasting the weather. During this past cruise forecasts have ranged from warm and sunny, to the 30 foot seas and 83 knot winds of typhcnn Phyllis.
