Many people have said that I have lost a year be- cause my school in Montevideo does notcountthis semester I have studied here, but I am sure that that is not true. I know that it is very important for all teen-agers to finish high school and go to a college, but it is also important to travel ancl know the people and customs of other countries. By doing this the student will know that there are South Americans with blond hair, that there are Swedes with dark hair, and that not all the Afri- cans areblack. Butthereissomething else fundamental that he will realize: understanding between people from different places is possible. I knew before I came that I would have a memorable semester, but I can now relate that the actual experience has surpassed my dreams. The school and community have been so warm and friendly. Everyone has made a special effort to make me comfortable here, including the administration, teachers and students. There are so many I do not know. l wish to thank you all for making me feel thatMaumee High School is 'my school '. Friends R fn nie yi 5 I . h' HE EVA LINDAHL: ln this way l would like to say thank you to the students, the faculty, and to the administration of Maumee High School for making my year here such a wonderful and interesting experience. lfeel as if I have learned very much in the classrooms but per- haps more from the people themselves. lguess al- most everybody believes that people in a foreign country must be different in one way or the other, but I have discovered that this is not true. People are the same except for some values and traditions all over the world, and lwish everybodywould real- ize that, since it would help us to create a better world through understanding and respect for each other. It is hard for me to believe that my school year here in the United States is already over. It passed by all too fast, but I am very grateful for the time I spent with you and I will always remember Maumee High School. Frankly, many things in school here were strange and differentfrom what I was used to, as an example, lcould notleaveschoolcluring lunches and studyhalls as I could in Sweden. But I became used to my role as an American studentpretty fast, and during Senior Week, when we had permission to leave school, I felt strange and guilty as if doing something wrong. l also hope that l have been able to teach you something about Sweden. There is one thing I know for sure that most of you now know, namely, that all Swedes are not blondes. I can never thank you enough for all your kindness and friendliness, but please try to understand how much I appreciate you all. CAROLINE WATSON: lt goes without saying that, for me, this year was ci year that I will always remember. On thinking back I'Il remember Don McBride's hair, Brian Winters who gave me happiness in the 'Grass Roots', Pam and Dave from myhistory, Becky who l never could call Alys, Jana and our fifty mile walk, Mike Robarge who made a splendid effortat imitating my accent, Jayne Garrison who also tried, lwith amusing resultsl, John Johnson's shriek, friendly Danny, Marsha from Biology, the animal side of Bill Witte, my good friend Shelley, the 'gentle' Pat Ramlow, Mr. Worster who was different, and the one who called me gorm, but most of all, I will always love and re- member my dear sister Pam and my family. It is hard for meto express my gratitude in words, but thank you all, all as Maumee High and all as individuals, for these and many other memories. To lVlr. Paul Whitaker and Anchor Press for help in solving some sticky problems and for patiently putting up with some stupid blunders. To lVlr. William Beaber, REFLECTOR editorial advisor, for his composure in the face of all calamities. To my staff--you did a great job despite me--and especially to those staff members who did their own work and those who completed their pages within two months of their deadlines. To Marsha lVlarck for working all year above and beyond the call of duty. To H. A. Powell Studios and Craig Samiec for a lot of great pictures and a few rotten ones. To Bob Teetrick, Bev Bergan, and Chris Kasey for donating some desperately needed photos when the rest of the student body turned a deaf ear to our pleas. To all faculty members who were stuck with me for graciously accepting my absences and interruptions due to yearbook work. To ,lane lVleClellan for her help, criticism, and general concern. To Sue McDermott for her sympathy and moral support. To my mother for every thing. And to John for being wonderful . . . Thank you all. Sherri lVl.
