The student body presented itself in front of the new school and stood at attention during the raising of the flag. The Band, which had conducted summer practice sessions played for the first time at the new building. The senior high is a proud, gleam- ing new building. It is the home of a dedicated student body, and the birthplace of our first of many steps toward adulthood. I.et's keep it looking the way it does now we have a lor to be proud of. The city of Maumee was cordially invited to attend the dedication ceremony and many of its townspeople eagerly turned out to witness this momentous occasion. Highlighting the evening was a tour of the spacious building. After the guided tour, refreshments were served and a program was presented. Members .of the Fraternal Order of Eagles present to the winning team of the Maumee-Perrysburg football game the Eagles Trophy. As every- one knows, this trophy is a great honor to receive, and it is sought after by both schools. This trophy has gone from one school to another and can only stay in one of the schools if they have won the game three times in a row. Maumee has won one game and hopes to win the next two from Perrysburg in order to k eep the trophy. At the annual presentation dinner held in honor of the football team, the President of the Eagles pre- sents the trophy to the two captains. This year WiHie Finical and Tom Brady were the captains of the foot- ball team and they received the trophy. 1 we i , .u Jog --L - -.xg 'Y ss xi ' . 'SX -M. It was a hard, intense season with daily practices which started in late August. Led by Co-Captains Torn Brady and Willy Finical the Panthers finished another football season with a record to be proud of. Much of this credit also goes to head coach Don Prentiss who has lost only six games out of thirty-seven in the four years he has been head coach. Several accidents seemed to plague the team this year. Co-Captain Tom Brady was the first casualty, when he suffered from an acute attack of separated ribs during the second game. He mended quickly, though, and was back on the field after four games. Tom Gascon had nose trouble and Buddy Motter got an athletic foot. Fortunately, nobody was hurt falling off the bench. The highlight of the football season was the victory over Perrysburg. Cffhe game was preceded and proceeded by a great deal of revelry from both sides. A great deal of applesause was also present. You mn only have three pieces, Bob. Above: Ex-Grad Dave Browning provided beautiful lyric ballads. On November 22, the Y-Teens presented their formal fall dance. The theme was Harvest Moon . Fences and pumpkins dominated the scene. Two beautiful scare crows, with neatly combed hair were the center of attention in the middle of the floor. Mr. and Mrs. Schlievert and Mr. and Mrs. Wertz chaperoned during the evening. C1 I X 5, ki as K Lf' 'iv' Er: 5:-. IJ ffl' 1 r , nr 5 , . The French Club gave its annual Christ- mas Party with its guest, the Spanish Club. There was a program at the beginning of the meeting with members of both clubs explaining the Christmas customs of each land. The Creche and portal scenes of France, and the Spanish American nations were displayed while the Spanish Club also displayed several pinatas. These pinatas were broken during the refreshment period, and there was a mad scramble for the candy that poured forth. Cookies and punch were also served to both the invited faculty guests and the club members. 55 Crimson Christmas is Santa's theme 1 is Queen Dee and King Bido sit in their sleigh. The royal court dances in the middle of the royal ballroom. 56 Couples confer about sneaky ways to get Santa's candy canes. Queen Dianne talks with Sandy Moore and Bob Siedman as knave Joe Richardson stands patiently by. On December 16 the Student Council presented its annual Christmas Prom entitled Crimson Christmas . With the music of the Quiet Tones in the back- ground, the couples danced in the new gymnasium which had been decorated earlier according to the theme. The refreshments were served by student council members and their dates before the royal court was announced. About 10:45 all was quiet as Dan Condron announced the King, Queen, and their court. Sophomore attendants were Suzi Gall and Peaches Caparo. Juniors-Diane Nowak and Bob Kumpe. Seniors-Ann Moorhead and Mike Nelson, and the King and Queen were Bill Gosline and Dianne Butler. After Santa Claus had crowned the reigning monarchs, the five couples danced by the crimson lights. All couples joined in then, most girls minus their shoes, and danced until the cin- derella hour of 12:00. ., 4? Mmm, yummy good 6'- 'sYTu xr 3 151 5 xx :ff Ai. X N QL'-xiii WI 4- 'I 5 N71 L! Bonjour, me: limit, is the customary greeting of the president of the French Club to its members. And with this greeting the club has started many a meeting that has led to more and more accomplishments. This year the club had many guest speakers. Among these speakers were Miss Klopping and Mrs. Janis - both told of their trips abroad. Not only has the French Club promoted academic interests as the ones just mentioned, but it has also livened up many a day by put ting on the traditional Mardi Gras Dance. Its purpose is to promote interest to the already interesting Spanish classes, and to highlight the students knowledge of Spanish culture. Among the many things in which the Spanish Club participates is the annual Christmas Patty held jointly with the French Club. Guest speakers have enlivened and enriched the student's knowledge of Spain also. It is the hope that this fairly new organization will continue to grow and develop into an even more worth while club than it already is. There was polka-ing, twisting, and several other dances, although indescribable. Martin' Sam was on hand, while seated on an inverted washtub, writing out marriage licenses for the lovely, so in love Dogpatchers and collecting either two bits, four bits, and as high as six bits for a very ceremonial two second wedding. The Sadie Hawkins' Hoedown Wouldn't you say that it is better to twist with your mouth open? Even the band enjoyed the prom. Cary Grant - joey Brown Haney gives us his famous stare. This year's junior-Senior Prom gave an honorable Japanese tribute to the graduating seniors. The junior class outdid themselves with a beautiful Japanese mural, a clever bridge, intriguing lighting, good music, and delicious food. The japanese theme was carried so far as to say good-bye to the seniors . . . in japanese. Sayonara to the seniors How's this for a candid shot? Four couples are caught somewhat off guard. Phew! Bubble, bubble Toil and trouble Chicj Shenandoah - fthe seni0r's own. Mashed Potatoes, Whee-ooh! The Senior Prom, Shenandoah, was presented on June 1. The decorations carried out the southern theme, with a carriage, Spanish moss, and fig leaves. Unfor- tunately, there was no white horse. fLady Godiva, where are you?D A loaf of bread, a jug of wine Hail to the Our Alma Mater . Dr. Calvin Buchanan of the Presbyterian Church in Maumee addressed the Senior Class at the Baccalaureate Ceremonies. Baccalaureate was held Sunday, june 5, in the High School Gee, John, you don'r look very sad about graduating, gymnasium. The hundred and fifty-nine seniors, their parents and guests listened to the invocation by the Reverend Mr. Howard Graham. The Dr. Calvin Buchanan of the Presbyterian Church gave the sermon on the subject of daring. The benediction was given by the Reverend Mr. Williams. On Tuesday, June 5, the seniors once again filed into the gymnasium and listened to their classmates' challenges. Peg Conrad spoke on the subject-Believing is Seeing. Tom Brady spoke on- To Aspire is to Achieve , and Pete Day spoke on- The Will to Do, The Soul to Dare. Mr. Rolf recognized those seniors who had earned awards and scholarships. Buddy Motter, class president, presented the class gift to the school and Mr. Herbert accepted it on behalf of the administration. Mr. Herbert in turn presented the class to Mr. William F. Butler, President of the Board of Education, who then presented the diplomas. The benediction was given by the Reverend Mr. Warren Jackson of the Maumee Baptist Church. When the last strains of Pomp and Circumstancen were heard the class of 1963 became the seniors-and the class of 1962 a memory.
