m, - X, , .1-Q: M,-'-If l 'lla-.. sy, View of Murdock Hall before the Towers were built. Foreword North Adams State College, located in the heart of the Berkshire Mountains, was founded in 1894. Thirty-two women and three men made up the first student body and the campus consisted of only Murdock Hall and Smith House lthe presidential residencel. Since this time the college has gone through many changes and incredible growth. It wasn't until 1960 that the name of the college was changed from North Adams State Teachers College to its present name. It was also at this time that the curriculum was expanded to include other majors besides Education. The enrollment kept growing as well as the size of the campus and subsequent number of buildings. Because the growth of this college spanned so many years the architecture of each building is different. The different types of windows represented by each seems to reflect this difference in time. just as all these elements have been brought together to provide us with a rich and diversified education, we, as people, have come together for the purpose of learning. just as the windows of this school represent their own time and place, our eyes represent us as our windows to the world .
