The Mason County High School Concert Choir accepted the invitation extended them by the National Scholarship Foundation to par- ticipate in the Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, in July. Fifteen choirs were selected from the United States from ninety who were nominated by a panel of outstanding choral directors in the nation. The Choir and Choral parents have been very busy raising funds to make this exciting trip. Included in the money-making projects were: the New-to- You Shop, selling chances on a car, and selling baked goods at home ballgames. Mrs. John Harrison, manager of the shop, and Mrs. Coralie Runyon, showing merchandise to a customer. Steven Carlisle, selling chances on the Vega. The bake sales proved successful at the home ballgames.

Opening Game of 10th Region Mason County played host to the 10th Regional Basketball Tournament again this year. The first game saw the Royals Squeeze by Bracken County by the score of 56-54 in overtime. Tony Breeze hit a driving layup with six seconds to go to cap- ture the win. Wayne Ross and Steve Lofton led the Royals in scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Breeze finished with 12 points, followed by Dale Horner with 6, Don Black, and Bill Jackson each with 4, and Greg Murphy with 1 point. The win vaulted Mason County into the semifinals of the tour- nament against Bourbon County. HERE COME THE ROYALS! Determined Dale Horner grabs another rebound for the Roy- als. This rebound belongs to the Royals as Steve Lofton (42) and Wayne Ross (44) surround the basketball. Steve Lofton (42), struggles to gain control of loose ball as Tony Breeze looks on.
