Jones Assistant Editor. Sam Comett Business Manager. Michael Simpson Layout Editor Sarah Schaefer Faculty Advisor. Dr. Charlotte Beck Typesetter Jean Prasher-Mosley IMPRESSIONS is the literary magazine of Maryville College. In an effort to encourage creative efforts, contributions are taken from any interested member of the campus community. Selections for the magazine are made by an editorial staff and are based on originality and literary quality. To insure unbiased opinion in the selection process, all author ' names are removed from the entries prior to their consideration for publication. It is the hope of the staff that IMPRESSIONS will give an accurate reflection of the college community as a creative force. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The staff of BiPRESSIONS would like to thank Susan Jennings, JoElla Washburn, Kim McCarter, Beth Goodier, Lynn Sedowicz, David Marcum, Dee Dee Davis, Kecia Lacy, Jessamine Kane, and Sarah Ferguson, for their invaluable assistance in preparing this magazine for publication. 6 4 The beginning of this year presented the Chilhowean with an erratic start. There were numerous delays. Some of these were: appointment of an editor, appointment of an advisor, a staff and postponement of picture day! We have tried to make this book the best as possible with the material we could assemble. If for any reason an organization or individual was not pictured in the book, we deeply regret that fact. The Chilhowean ' s purpose is to represent the Maryville College community through a pictorial display. This display is then preserved for posterity. We have tried to the best of our abilities to ac- complish this task. We hope we have been successful. The members of the staff are: Ms. Joanne Lax-Farr — Advisor, Victor Oakley — Editor, Kristi Self— Assistant Editor, Keith Moore — Photo Editor, Aundra Ware, Julie Marshall and Stephanie Stephens. Photographers: Keith Moore, Victor Oakley, Phil Finney, Charlie Gumula, Raina Bor- ing, Debbie Coles and Julio Pesiri. We have all worked hard to make this a great yearbook that con- tains something for everyone. Inevitably, we could not please everyone. So, when the yearbook ar- rives, if anyone has complaints or suggestions on how to make the Chilhowean better, please keep them to yourself unless you are willing to get involved when next year ' s editor asks for people to work. It is far easier to sit back and criticize other people ' s work instead of getting involved and subjecting yourself to criticism (be it constructive or malicious — the latter more often than the former). My deepest thanks to all those people at Color Plus and my staff, especially Kristi, who spent as many or more hours doing the book as I did! At least try to enjoy the book! i cxiki 65 r MARYVILLE COLLEGE 66 Sharon Crane — Director, Andy Spargo and Gerald Burnette — Musical Techni cians. The residence halls on campus pro- ceeded to build floats that took on themes from futures past and past futures. Davis Dorm was decorated in the shape of a huge clock. Dorm I attempted space flight through a futuristic ship was interrupted by the abrupt arrival of future shock. Lloyd Hall successfully explored new frontiers through their Enterprise ing ideas and captured the judges ' hearts and their award. Copeland ' s float took on a more present theme of time-raged Bart and the dorm took on the theme of Enchant- ment Under the Sea which was also the theme of this year ' s homecoming dance.
